BTE is a finisher. It doesn't interact with Ambush.

I don't know where you got the idea that you can delay BTE. Even in the FAQ, openers hit BTE first (unless you have IAR, which you don't have as a HO player)

Click "Timelines" and then click on "Casts" to see it show your timeline for casts

But what I linked as well, fight starts at 14:29, you didn't hit BTE until 14:42

Other things like trinket usage (probably could have gotten in one or two more Whetstone casts), more Vanish casts (since it looked like you had the opportunity to cast it multiple times at 3 stacks of opportunity)
