I don't think early progression is that important and there's some basic math for figuring out what you should be looking for.
You're usually better off understanding the range you should be looking for, and looking at the list of possible options and going through it yourself.

I'm leveling war with a mage right now. And while it's going faster than solo. If I didnt have to worry about threat and we had just a little more dps we would be cruising
But also when we finally hit 16 and he picked up his frostbolt he gets at 14 and I picked up heroic strike re pretty sure we started killing mobs a level or two above us without any issue

but the glow doesnt work right, persists after i've casted it
and yeah you can only use it after parrying, and there is no visual queue besides the button going from less saturated to fully saturated. unless you're staring at your bars or combat text, it's easy to miss

Swing Timer is important for the MH due to Sinister Strike potentially proccing SwordSpec, you getting the extra attack instantly, and resetting the swing timer, so you want the timer as low as you can so you wait the least time possible before you Auto Attack again.

a) Swords is more damage overall
b) deadly poison (DoT) can’t be used in raids as if consumes a debuff slot; mobs die fairly quickly in dungeons and reduce the net DPS
c) combat daggers is only practical with good gear post-MC
Play what you want, but there’s a reason people say “swords”. Especially for leveling, since backstab requires actually positioning in classic, and solo leveling isn’t conducive to that.
