#Linux only - latest update broke mouse movement
129 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Thanks for posting this! I'm also on linux and noticed that mouse clicking in general seems broken while in game after the update. Basic attacks will often only happen once instead of repeating when held or seem to have their inputs completely missed.
Hey there, yes this is an issue with me too
Left clicking, seems like I have to press a few times to register, and right clicks, only this update had the issue, prior to this one all was perfect
@past whale @bright pine @unborn veldt i confirmed it is an issue with the new update, the devs told me they will need to get a linux machine to test this so it might take a few days. What distro are you guys currently running? I'm on Bazzite Desktop
arch
I'm on NixOS, so it doesn't look this this is disto specific
Yeahh.. Thought so. We shall see. In the meantime this is exactly why i always keep a windows 11 SSD. Sometimes you just need a backup
Yeah I'm going to try out using a controller instead while we wait, since that seemed to work fine when I tried earlier
Aiming with a controller😳
oh thank the gods it's not just me. cool I'm on Linux Mint
Using Linux Mint here. Not sure if this would help them but would a poll of linux distros help with which ones to focus on the most?
what desktop environment are you using?
judging by this thread, it doesn't seem distro specific
These things are rarely distro specific. However, it would be nice to have a linux channel in here
getting the proton versions people are using would help
i've tried with hotfix and experimental so far with no luck
I tried proton GE as well
im tyring 9.0 now
It's not a proton issue, otherwise an older version should still work
you'd think
It's def game sided, perhaps they changed how movement registers to tackle the memory overhead and crashes
are we all on wayland desktops 😅
I'm on the mint default, xorg
darn
yeah so it seems like if you click during the same frame that your mouse moved, it ignores the click
yeah this, as if theres some missing inputs
FYI <@&1239200584309936180> i guess
game is unplayable on linux rn
ive tried on my windows 11 laptop, games fine, its just on my linux arch distro like everyone else we are having mouse input issues, since the last patch was implemented, so whether its a proton/wine/steam bug or whatnot
for more context: I tried on proton 10 GE, proton hotfix, proton experimental, proton 9.0 and proton 7.0 (stab in the dark, since this one is ancient)
and it was the same
same problem with input here.
both right click for attack, and skills(keyboard and mouse).
wont always register.
So i tested wayland and gamescope
the reliable step to reproduce is to hole left mouse for auto attack and than move the mouse while still holding left mouse
it will than stop registering the inputs from the left mouse button.
since its present on wayland xwayland and gamescope i dont think its a linux specific bug but rather one just not as present on windows :&
yes, thats the gimmick. moving mouse and clicking makes it not register.
my only workaround right now is running the game in my windows VM and streaming it out :)
if they need it, I am down to run test builds.
luckily I can just stream it from my virtual machine to my host so I can still play
Changing it to something other than LMB fixes it. Settings > Controls > Directional attack in place.
Update also straight up halved my fps in main menu and about a 30-40% decrease in-game (single and coop) for no apparent reason.
Days for a linux machine? There are virtual machines
Bro would rather aim with controller than install windows
APP Smoothie Patrol
sending links from that website isn't allowed in Shape of Dreams!
🤦♀️
fyi this is not mentioned in the server rules (double facepalm)
so the links here are obfuscated -.-
since the last version of the game from 18 September 2025 – 09:17:28 UTC was working we can for now downgrade the game.
here is a tutorial: imgur com/a/downloading-older-version-of-game-on-steam-step-by-step-gBLJO
the according manifest can be seen here:
steamdb info/depot/2444751/manifests/18
you can open the steam console by closing steam and starting steam via terminal. or if you have a browser which alows opening linkes outside of it you can just put this into a new tab of your webbrowser:
steam://nav/console
or enter this into a terminal
steam steam://nav/console
after you have the steam cli open (which ever way works for you - google one you like if the above mentioned dont work)
enter:
download_depot 2444750 2444751 6722939624675310076
to get the patch from 18 September 2025
there is no feedback other than your network monitor probably showing download traffic.
after its finished it will show you the path it downloaded the files to.
Depot download complete :
"[discordmsglimit]" (manifest 6722939624675310076)
as you can see the link is broken so you can probably just use this one:
~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steamapps/content/app_2444750/depot_2444751/
you can now copy those files over your game file Directory
(right click shape of dreams -> settings -> installed files -> browse -...)
now you can play 1.0.6 of the game without the bug which bricks mouse Input (:
the problem is that steam has for a long time now disabled the option to not update a game so you might have to copy & replace again after reboot or steam restart (whenever steam will decide to update sod again)
*Disclaimer: *
i tested and confirmed this is working with a friend of mine.
i dont know if it will affect our save games!
To add to this, this fix is an offline solution, for multiplayer it will give a mismatched version on connect, and same for fetching servers online you will be matched with your own version of the game
i mean, quite literally yes
It’s the lesser of two evils
I have a win11 ssd on standby for extreme edge cases. I would love to get rid of it but about once a year something happens that requires me to use a diff OS
On endeavouros here, facing the same problems. Guess I'm joining the controller gang until this is fixed lol. No windows to fall back on, and never will be for me anyway.
it's actually not that bad with controller so far, gotta get used to it though
very good tism sir. i approve.
You should install a real man's linux
TempleOS🙏
not for us (:
we all downgraded (since we all arepenguins) and it works like a charm ;)
Posting to say I also have this issue on linux mint, but I have a friend on windows who is also reporting this problem
Also affected by this issue on Arch. Let me know if I can do anything to help test/resolve. I have been loving this game!
Same here on void.
Hey @peak patrol. Love the game. Want to keep playing.
Just wanted to make sure you saw this bug ❤️
Yep, we are aware of this and we also found similar reports on Mac with Crossover. Unfortunately, we have neither test machines yet, but we will try to get one quick to work on this.
Sorry about what's happening here. Let us know if you guys have any detail that would aid us in fixing this bug.
us linux folks like to get involved 😅
If you need tests on a beta branch or anything, i'm sure all of us would jump on it.
That's good to hear! Notes taken.
FWIW, it seems that mouse buttons only get dropped while the mouse is moving. It feels like if the mouse moved on the same frame as a mouse button press, it ignores the button press.
This only happens in game though. In the menus, the cursor always shows mouse clicks even when the mouse is moving.
I know ya'll arent steam deck verified, but If you have a steam deck for testing, i'm sure plugging in a mouse would reveal the bug too. It doesn't seem to happen with controllers, so using the steam deck normally is fine.
Exactly this, the mouse click is still being registered (You see this by the cursor changing) but it drops the attack/skill command while the mouse is moving.
You can test this by holding left click, as long as the mouse is still the attack continues but as soon as you move the mouse the attack stops.
It’s not just attacks either. If you use moba controls, you can’t click to move.
I've noticed it starts the animation but then it fails I guess and cancels out. Not sure if that helps in any way
I'm using an arch based distro, cachyos
Any mouse movement cancels the attack, if you do not move the mouse while attacking it works properly, even moving the character. Seems to be an on mouse hover/movement flag to be cancelling/shadowing the attack.
Set the aim assist to ultra, place the pointer under your character and lift the mouse, linux only challenge for the worthy.
You could test with a lightweight linux distro on a virtual machine
I think we've established at this point that this issue persists across distros and various different setups 😅
apparently it's happening on mac with wine too
Is anyone able to determine if it's wine specifically or proton?
also is this distinction even important?
you can just install it into a wine prefix or add wine as runner to steam
but since its reported on several platforms and even some windows users its a game bug which just shows more severely on Linux (:
i tested on wayland xwayland and even gamescope on both backends with several runners.
just downgrade the game with the setps imentioned above and have fun playing it (:
Made a post in case ppl want to remap mouse as work around to play with current patch
https://steamcommunity.com/app/2444750/discussions/0/599665349675378382/
TL;DR that is how I remapped my mouse to play this patch. I saw ppl use xremap but here is my own keyd config, works on Wayland. Install keyd using your package manager or from source. Start keyd using your service manager (could be systemd, runit etc). Find your mouse device: # keyd monitor Edit /etc/keyd/default.conf and add your device to the...
it's both. you can think of wine as proton with additional features to work nicely with steam and steam games. (a bit oversimplified, but it's a good way of thinking about it)
so usually if it's a problem in one it's a problem in the other
FWIW, if you play with wasd controls, you can just remap your left and right click to other buttons and keep playing on the latest version
I worry about downgrading because idk what it'll do to my save 😅
If any logs are needed, I did find a way to generate the logs thats used by proton in steam:
-Right-click on the desired game: in your library.
-Select "Properties": from the context menu.
-In the "General" tab, locate the "Launch Options" field.
-Enter the following command into the "Launch Options" field:
PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
Start the game, play it for awhile. Close it, then check your home directory for the logs. Should start with "steam" followed by some random number.log
Lol, how sad the steam deck user feel…first is white screen bug, then mouse
Not sure it's worth making another thread since it's probably linux related too
But I have gotten a weird glitch using the latest Steam proton
And the 4th world has some sounds issue like every effects has an echoes somehow, anyone can relate?
There are lots of little visual glitches with proton. I can't say I have experienced that one in particular but I have been seeing multicoloured outlines on the blue portals between stages. I also saw some glutchy lights in the constellation screen. Right now I am playing on my windows install while I wait for the proton build to be fixed.
I'm also concerned by this bug
if it goes away using a different version of proton i'd argue it's irrelevant. especially since it could be something with the latest version of proton and not the game
what distro are you using?
Using arch have the same bug here
It's just since the new patch, game was perfectly stable before, no glitches for me at least, but when playing that 1.7 and 1.8 woop 🗿
CachyOS here, same Issue
again you can downgrade to 1.06 and keep playing (for coop all of you need to downgrade)
#1423327972789719051 message
For folks who want to play online. Thanks to @dusky marlin .
Do you have the config file by any chance? (in ~/.config/input-remapper-2). For some reason, input remapper cannot record my left mouse click 🙁
(Nevermind --- figured it out. A running keyd process was hogging the device. I uninstalled keyd and restarted computer and record is working now)
Posted on the forums, but might as well mention here as well that I am also having this issue, gnome arch
that being said, it's cool to see there are so many linux users
Yeah broken mouse movement on Fedora 42
Before the update the game was as good as it is on windows
@here Hi everyone. Could you guys try playing on a beta branch and see if the mouse control works properly there?
- Right-click Shape of Dreams in Steam Library
- Click Properties
- Click on Beta on left-side panel
- Enter code: linuxbeta12345
- Select "linux-beta" from the beta selection dropdown
- Launch the game and see if the problem has been resolved
Tried the new beta and seems to be working as intended. (Arch + Wayland)
Great to hear! Please ping @ me and let us know if you find any weird behaviors and bugs with the beta branch.
@peak patrol extremely possible i'm just doing something stupid / it's a "my mouse" issue because i haven't been able to figure out if this is a replicable thing... i think sometimes my clicks are being duplicated? i had 2 charges of lacerta's right click and was occasionally seeing it fire twice with one click. i also think i had some basic attacks fire twice in succession with one click. it seemed to maybe correspond to enemy displacement abilities or something similar, but that was quite hard to consistently test without dying 😅 curious if anyone else trying the beta branch sees something similar
Tested beta on Nobara (Fedora) --- Just tested starting stage with Lacerta and Yubar specifically, feels good. I tried to see if I could test the right click duplication on Yubar since she has the reactivation on the starter skill; it seems to be working as intended for me (the right click doesn't instantly use the followup move so it feels like it works as normal).
this is my first time playing the game with the mouse working (just started 2 days ago) and it feels soooooo much smoother and fluid. Thank you!
Looks to be fixed on my Linux Mint machine!
Works for me, (Mint, Xorg, GE-Proton 10-17)
yeah i was testing a bunch with mist and couldn't replicate... so i'm gonna chalk it up to user error in some fashion. either that or it's so niche and hard to reproduce, it's not worth digging into
hello Lizzard Smoothie (:
i now did a quick test and so far it looks good i can hold left mouse and move it with natchia while she keeps attackign as intended.
in the next hours we will continue our coop run which we downgraded back to 1.0.6 for the last days.
if there are further issues ill report back.
since you are here thanks for your work! <3
but take care of your health! dont crunch. take the weekend off at least - nothing is worth a burn out - trust me ;)
Also since i have your attention: can we please get a statement for injecting upscaling (dlss xess fsr etc into the game #1422214275069513839 message) ? :D
Tested on Gnome Wayalnd - Arch Linux, it works 💪
Time to do some mist and shell runs to "make sure it works" 😉
Working for me on Linux Mint native, thanks for the fix !
Working for me on arch! Now just to get online back :3 thanks for your quick work @peak patrol !
seems to be fixed, tested on
arch distro
with shell;
wait it seems to be fixed with or without the beta branch the dev mentioned? or is it integrated into the main branch already? i don't see it and i saw there was a special beta branch made for the bug so a little confused
Only the beta, I just tried in the regular version and it's still borked, seems like we'll get a fix soon :)!
Then why might I not be seeing the beta branch? Do you know why that could happen
I see it just fine here, I'll just wait since I'm playing online with friends using controller for now.
I'm dumb I missed a requirement
This seems pretty well covered, but just to add here, this bug is also affecting Crossover use on MacOS with this latest update. Cant use mouse for any movement or ability targeting.
Also seems to be fixed for me on!
Good job on fixing this so fast.
Sounds great, hopefully they will get it ready for online co op! 😄
does the beta fix the bug for you as well ?
corssover is similare to wine correct?
I’ll give it a try. Crossover is essentially a fancy Wine bundle but with an ARM build for macOS and patches for the M-series GPUs.
My game crashed for the first time ever trying the beta linux patch (i play since release)
The mouse work well now 👍
Can't replicate for now
fixed for me on wayland (hyprland) with the beta patch (amd cpu, nvidia gpu)
Just tested the linuxbeta12345 branch, this fixes the issue on crossover for macOS (Crossover 25.1 with GPTK3_beta4)
Im playing with my friends using the beta branch. They are using the default.
No need to go to the oficial branch to play coop.
When I loaded the beta version dream together was disabled. Has that been fixed?
Hmm, maybe? I've updated the game right after they announced this beta branch, no other updates seems to be released.
Been playing the entire day with friends.
OMG really? That sounds wonderful, I'll give it a try as soon as I can! I imagined there was going to be some sort of version mismatch error. I'm not sure how it works in their end, hopefully the fix can be integrated on the main version so that they don't have to deal with the beta option in the future 🙂
in the beta, clemency in butchers strike, only heals when hitting bosses.
