#Shadow Layering/Masking

(I am new to 3D and shaders so bare with me lol) I have a "shadows" layer (2nd image) that I am hoping to render over my "textures" mesh (1st pic) using a shader (3rd pic), but discarding non-shadowed pixels just results in grey/background color instead of the textured mesh I want to show. Is there a way for this "shadow" layer to render just the shadows while showing the textures behind in lit areas?
