I've worked out that it has to do with the game being pixel perfect

I've made sure the velocity and position of the player is always full integers, and the issue is mitigated, but still not perfect, now rather than jittering when moving, the light leaves a 1 pixel trail which is still not desirable

yeah, despite my efforts the player isn't actually staying pixel perfect for some reason, despite rounding velocity and position both every frame
