I think creating an inherited scene of your model file lets you edit the animation
Haven't used 3d in a while so not too sure

No i'm pretty sure there's a way, I feel like edited an imported animation before
I guess it's just not very straightforward
You should be able to write an editor script to automate the process somewhat I would assume
