It's ridiculously complex, has no guidebook and is effectively a 'tax' research you need to get on the step to getting other medical technologies. This all makes it completely unused by any experienced medical doc and those that even consider using it for gimmicks are quickly put off from its unneeded complexity and obscurity.

Potential options to alleviate its issues

  • Have it start with bluespace glove tech and other advanced surgery tools instead of needing its own. The only thing you input are chems and organs (which are freezer'd). EDIT: Apparently there's a bluespace glove PR being made for the autodoc.
  • Remove the requirement for safety wire cutting/patient being asleep - make it an internal toggle when using the computer (with a big warning on the danger). This doesn't work if the surgery is obviously lethal (e.g. remove brain/head from live patient) unless you emag it.
  • Add a guidebook entry for how to use it.
  • Give it the same kind of interface the particle emitter has, to identify the need or position of a surgical bed.
  • Give it sample simple surgery programs as presets (e.g. staunching bleeds, mending bones, tending bruises/burns for each limb).
