#Beginning Development for SS14

This is an odd, more personal question, not so much related to Goobstation/SS14, but more so programming development. I wont get big into my life, but I have begun my college course on learning Python, and I plan fully to get into development for SS14, to hopefully be a contributor at some point.

I have little to no prior Python coding experience, knowledge developing scripts, working with them, or working in Github, yet my course will be teaching me how to do both.

What I want to know is, how drastic is the translation from absolute beginner coding in Python IDLE to coding for SS14? What should I do to practice for SS14 and indie game development? How much programming knowledge should I gather before I even try development for SS14?

How do I get started learning SS14's software and how to edit it?

The biggest question: How much C++ or other programming language is used, if ever, for SS14.

Hopefully by the end of my semester, I will be coding within SS14's engine, at the very least for personal development knowledge, and learning. Any helpful links I will gladly accept.
