So, I am currently writing, and designing, a program that will allow hosts to configure the item.json file. Not going to delve into exactly what it does yet (until I release a beta), but soon you will be able to download and use it. Its going to have lots of juicy features >:)

Project is a work in progress (WIP) so stay tuned! First will be very soontm

Just a suggestion: I would try to find a way to modify the items.json through a server mod

So that for example your application writes a custom config that helper server mod reads and then overlaps whatever's in the items.json at that point. That way SPT would get less annoyed that one of their core files would have been modified monkacomfy

Other than that I much welcome a mod that allows me to tinker with items in a more friendly manner hypers

Edit compatible attachments on a weapon part or helmet
More accessible way to add, remove, or edit items in a trader assort
A button for shuffling and or scrambling of values
Duplicating an item entry to add new items to tweak
Right click dropdown on items ingame includes a "copy id"

I cut out the "adding slots to an item".
If you choose to do the empty or full medkit like you mentioned please only limit it to general medical items. My biggest complaint with the existing items in medkits mod is the restrictions you can't change with a config

The mods that added the extra slots to buffer tubes to let you adjust your stock were great. Being able to jerryrig your own with a config just sounds fun to play around with

And letting you add a copy of an existing gun that takes different parts would pretty much let you create whole new weapons entirely out of existing models
