#I would like to run a VPS instead of a VPN but i need help to set it up

I'm not a very technical person but I've been trying to figure this out over the last few days.
What I've opted for us renting a sever from https://contabo.com/en/ with Windows Server 2022 and I've remote desktoped to it and will begin installing the AKI server and mods on it.
I'll let you know if it works!
Thx man Hit me up when you know ! you can dm me also

I was able to spin up an instance of the SPT-AKI server on AWS last night, using a Docker container to streamline to process. It runs on an Amazon Linux machine, and costs seem low so far (though I'll be shopping for other providers once I finalize this setup).
While I did install the FIKA mod, I haven't had a chance to test multiplayer yet.
@obtuse pine @vestal canyon I got my server setup on a free oracle vps. They are pretty powerful so I'd recommend you guys use them too. I am also hosting a watchtogether site and a terraria server on it. It offers 24gb of ram, 4 cores and 200gb of storage free forever.
I went over the installation here if you are interested in using the dockerfile for fika.

But if you guys need any help just let me know.
I've never dared to test AWS because of the horror stories of people getting charged too much 😄 I haven't really had a need for it either. You might also be interested in the free vps
I put a spend limit in place in case it goes wrong
Yeah probably for the best
Oh wow this is amazing, I'll give it a shot myself and if I need help with it I'll send you a message if you don't mind!
Just a heads up not to store anything important there without backups. I've heard of people just having their account/VPS deleted. Also they could just make it paid anytime if they want. I've had 0 problems but just something to keep in mind.
do you have any updates on this? I created a windows VM in my homelab running SPT with FIKA. It was able to connect users as well as allow them to host their own raid. however I was never able to connect to a raid or have friends connect to mine. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue with FIKA on a dedicated server.
apologies i just noticed how recent this thread is
What is the error and at what point does it show up at?
You've done the port forwarding and firewall rules right?
the error i when trying to connect to the raid is "unable to connect to the server make sure that all ports are open". I have the ports forwarded properly on my router so that my friends can connect and when hosting the server on my personal machine I can get into raids with friends. the only thing that changed was the location of the server on my network (and the forwarded IP in my router). firewall settings on my personal machine are open and correct, while on the dedicated server I have it off for the time being.
however everyone is able to make a raid and play in it individually on the server
Do you have this setup?
6969 forwarded to the server machine
25565 to your machine where you are hosting the raid
6969 port at least should be forwarded correctly then
ahh, that must be it, I have 6969 going to my dedicated server as well as 25565.
yeah server only needs 6969 for the inventory stuff and coop raids need 25565
Or turning on upnp in fika settings by pressing F12 might work depending on your router setup
Also I would recommend turning on native sockets too
awesome, ill give that a try
so if any client has UPnP enabled would they also be able to host raids without port forwarding?
Yeah you either have to have UPnP working or 25565 port forwarded
gocha
This resolved now?
it seems to be, i was able to get friends to connect and play but it did give me an error saying the UPnP port failed to open even though i had someone connect to the game.
Yeah it likes to give the UPnP error even though it seems to work. It's kind of janky 🤷♂️
Cool cool. Going to close this one down as the main issue dealt with.
Thanks for the help in here @dull roost
