Requires: various possible subsets of evolutions which taken together resemble a cryptid
(e.g. fur+arms+legs+cortex = Yeti, antlers + hop + vegan = Jackalope, Nocturnal + spikes + jaws = Chupacabra, etc)
Effect: Your in-game sprite changes to look like the cryptid whose traits you possess, with no other effect

Based On: Cryptids from real life
Type: Passive
Rarity: Legendary
Affinity: None
Levels: 1
Requires: Various subsets of evolutions
Unlocks: None
Bans: None

Basically the idea is to introduce a fun but harmless minigame/sidequest that lets players play as their favorite (real) cryptids 🙂 Once you unlock the last evolution in a subset that would form a cryptid (e.g. you get bipedal after having legs and fur and cortex, forming YETI) the Cryptid evolution appears in your next evolution, and if you take it your appearance changes into the associated cryptid's! (which could, at a minimum, just mean reverting to the sprite changes implied by the evolution subset of that cryptid, but would be cooler if it was bespoke per cryptid 🥺 )
The text on the evolution would read ??? or "I can't tell if that's a real evolution or not" and if you don't click it, it won't appear again in the game, like it was never there to begin with...wow...but if you do, you turn into the cryptid, maybe with some spooky wavy text saying the cryptid's name too!
I just think it would be really fun, especially for players who don't know it's coming. Could come with a bunch of hidden achievements too per cryptid! And it would be fun for the community too to figure out slowly which cryptids are in the game! Please suggest more in the thread, but off the top of my head some that come to mind:

  • fur+arms+legs+cortex = Yeti
  • antlers + hop + vegan = Jackalope
  • nocturnal + spikes + jaws = Chupacabra
    -wings + scales + tail(+saliva?) = Dragon
-wings + bipedal + ruminant + horns = Jersey Devil
    Cryptid.

I think that this is a great idea but should be implemented as a mechanic of its own rather then an evolution.
A combo/synergy mechanic will elevate the game even more, and people can try to aim to different builds (I know I will). As in you could see them in the codex, either as is or with hints.
Think transformations in The Binding of Isaac
