Episode 1: Return
Scene opens in a black void. A single Shinto shrine stands quietly before Ren.
Mysterious Voice:
"You will live again, but at a cost”
Ren asks the voice what the cost is, but he gets cut off and transported back to life
In an instant, light floods the scene. Ren gasps as he finds himself back in his teenage years, standing in the middle of his village. The wind rustles the trees.
Ren (shocked):
"This... This is my home…?"
Aya (off-screen):
"Ren! Come on! Get ready already!"
Ren turns and sees Aya waving at him with a big grin.
Ren (in disbelief):
"I'm back…?"
The two walk to a resturant and order food and as they are walking by, Haruto appears and reminds them of the test in school.
Ren and Aya fall back in shock.*
*Scene cuts to a school hallway. Ren and Aya are walking together
Cut to the classroom
Teacher:
"This test is worth 70% of your final grade."
Ren (thinking):
"How am I supposed to pass? I’ve been dead for three years…"
The teacher passes out the envelopes—each one containing a test. Students begin opening them.
Ren (whispering):
"Aya, help me out… please."
Aya slides a piece of paper with the answers toward Ren, but just as Ren reaches for it, the teacher appears behind them.
Teacher (sternly):
"Office. Now."
Cut to the hallway. Ren and Aya leave the principal's office, disappointed. The class bell rings in the distance.
Aya (sighing):
"Guess we’re stuck here longer."
Teacher
"You two—stay a few more hours."
They return to the classroom and notice two girls already there—Yuki and her younger sister, Kiko.
Moments later, the teacher steps out of the room. The sisters glance at each other, then suddenly bolt out the door. Ren and Aya exchange looks and follow them.
They exit into a strange version of the city—dim and unfamiliar.
Ren:
"This isn’t... our school?"
Out of nowhere, a yokai bursts forward and tackles Ren to the ground.
Aya (shouting):
"Ren!"
He spots a dagger on the ground, grabs it, and charges at the yokai. He jumps—but the yokai knocks him away effortlessly.
Yuki and Kiko rush in. Kiko pulls out a small gun and fires at the creature, stunning it. Yuki follows up with a blade, dashing in and landing a final blow.
The yokai collapses, dissolving into smoke. Ren slowly gets up, dazed.
Ren:
"Who… who are you?"
Yuki:
"I’m Yuki. And that’s my sister, Kiko."
The camera pans out to show the strange city beneath the moonlight, dark clouds rolling in.
Cut to black.
