Villagers who fight are always on the front lines, and thus die pretty easy, so it'd be nice if you could upgrade their armor with either stone or ore (possibly both?) To make them much sturdier.

Oh absolutely, maybe the wood, bush and grass armor makes them harder to see
The skeleton and goblin armor makes the enemies not attack them
Deer and ore armor makes them have more defense
Bread armor provides food
Flint armor sacrifices the villager to explode enemies
