This guide covers some useful advanced movement tech on Hulk including: Silent leaps, various bhops, wall cancels and combinations of these.

Introduction

This guide will cover advanced pieces of movement tech for Hero Hulk and Monster Hulk. This guide will have sections for keyboard & mouse users as well as sections for controller users where it is necessary. This guide will cover the silent leap, various bunny hop (bhop) techniques, the wall cancel and combinations of those with their main use cases and how to do them. These techniques on their own will not make you a better Hulk player, but they will give you more room for error as well as giving you the ability to get back to fights that you otherwise would not be able to get to in time and allowing for some otherwise unviable plays.
This guide was written in the season 7.0 patch. Information may or may not be outdated in the future. If anything became outdated or you can’t seem to get the hang of one of the following pieces of movement tech: feel free to reach out to lucidtyranny (Lucid) in the #pathfinder-plaza.

Assumptions / should know

This guide assumes that you are already experienced using Hulk’s incredible leap properly and feel confident using Hulk in pvp matches, whether that is quick play or competitive doesn’t matter. Understanding how the incredible leap fundamentally works can help.

The silent leap

What are silent leaps and why should I use them?

Silent leap, as the name suggests, is a technique used to make the landing from your incredible leap onto a high ground silent. This makes it useful on certain maps (for example: central park) to go in early for a gamma burst when the round starts without getting noticed for an early ultimate energy lead. It is also a great tool for unexpected flank- and diving attempts.

How are silent leaps executed?

Silent leaps are done the same way on keyboard & mouse and controller. They can only be used on high grounds that have some form of ridge or wall where you can jump into. An example of a suitable place to do a silent leap is shown in the image below:

#
  1. Once you have found your high ground to jump onto: move somewhat close to the wall or ledge you will jump against. An approximate distance is shown in the image below. Do note: if the ledge is higher you will have to stand a little further back and if it is lower you will have to stand closer to it.
#
  1. Once you are in a good position: line up your incredible leap’s indicator arrow right above the high ground that you will be landing on. An example is shown in the image below.
#
  1. Once your incredible leap’s indicator arrow is aligned properly you can press the jump button to leap towards the wall. When you are in the air: hold your forward- and jump button. Hulk’s knees should be barely touching the ledge similarly to the image below.

And that’s it! You will know that you have done this correctly if the sound from the incredible leap stops after touching the ledge and if you don’t hear the landing sound from the incredible leap.

Bunny hops (bhops)

What is bhopping and what is it useful for?

Bhopping is a technique that involves (repeatedly) jumping with higher-than-normal momentum, allowing you to travel with higher speed than normal. This technique isn’t exclusive to Hulk, but it is executed much differently due to the way incredible leap works. To make up for this: Hulk can get a larger burst of momentum out of some of these techniques than other heroes can which results in faster travel times.
The 3 bhop techniques that will be covered are: Hero Hulk bhop, Monster Hulk bhop and leap denials (hero hulk). Hero Hulk bhop is a small extension of your incredible leap by keeping the small burst of momentum for a single extra hop. Monster Hulk bhop is similar to the Hero Hulk bhop but it allows you to keep all momentum from your incredible leap and thus allows you to keep on hopping for as long as you want (and can) making it a great way to escape fights when things go wrong. Leap denials are a combination of Hero Hulk- and Monster Hulk bhop, it has the properties of the monster hulk bhop but is executed very similarly to the hero hulk bhop. Leap denials don’t see much use in your average game, but they can be helpful in situations where you need to get back to the objective fast, but you can’t or don’t want to use a Doctor Strange portal to do so. The only downside to the leap denial is that you need a specific kind of object to jump into for it to work.

Settings (keyboard & mouse)

Bhopping on keyboard & mouse is possible with both hold to activate incredible leap turned on and off but the timing is slightly harder with it turned off, play using what you find comfortable!
In your hero specific keybinds for Bruce banner: bind scroll wheel up or down (preference) to jump on both the Hero Hulk and Monster Hulk forms.

Settings (controller)

Bhopping on controller is sadly not consistent at all with hold to activate incredible leap turned off, turning it on is a must if you want to bhop on controller.
In your hero specific keybinds for Bruce Banner: bind 2 buttons that are preferably close to each other to jump on both the Hero Hulk and Monster Hulk forms, if that is not possible choose 2 buttons that you can simultaneously press fast.

Hero Hulk bhop (keyboard & mouse)

  1. Start by charging your incredible leap, the more it is charged, the more momentum you will keep after the hop!
  2. Once the incredible leap is charged, aim to the direction you want to go and press the jump button or release the jump button, depending on if you enabled “hold to activate incredible leap” or not.
  3. Once you are about to land, Hulk’s feet will start to flatten out as shown in the picture below. At that moment you want to start scrolling up or down to essentially spam the jump input which will give you an extra hop with a little burst of momentum.

Note: as mentioned before only 1 extra hop is recommended per incredible leap used as hero hulk does not keep momentum without the use of other techniques that will be discussed later.

Hero hulk bhop (controller)

  1. Start by charging your incredible leap, the more it is charged, the more momentum you will keep after the hop!
  2. Once the incredible leap is charged, aim to the direction you want to go and release the jump button.
  3. Once you are about to land, Hulk’s feet will start to flatten out as shown in the picture below. At that moment you want to start pressing the 2 buttons you bound to jump as fast as you can to spam the jump input which will give you an extra hop with a little burst of momentum.

Note: as mentioned before only 1 extra hop is recommended per incredible leap used as hero hulk does not keep momentum without the use of other techniques that will be discussed later.

#

Monster Hulk bhop (keyboard & mouse)

At that moment you want to start scrolling up or down to essentially spam the jump input which will turn into a hop that kept all momentum from the incredible leap.
Compared to the Hero Hulk bhop this visual indication of the flattened-out feet is much harder to see and is rather unreliable, for those reasons I recommend you learn the timing for it. Start scrolling when Hulk is about to touch the ground, this timing will take some practice to get down but it usually becomes consistent quickly.
  4. After the first hop there will not be a visual indication for when to start scrolling up or down, you will have to start doing so right before Hulk touches the ground. This will take some practice to get the timing down but usually becomes consistent quickly.

Leap denials (keyboard and mouse)

Note: the first steps of this technique are easier with “hold to activate incredible leap” turned off but the actual bhopping is easier with “hold to activate incredible leap” turned on.

  1. Start by finding a suitable piece of map geometry to execute this technique. Said piece of map geometry needs to be on the ground and low enough in height so hulk can not grab onto it during his incredible leap. An example of a suitable piece of map geometry is shown in the image below.
#
  1. Once you have found a suitable piece of map geometry: stand right next to it, face slightly towards it and start charging your incredible leap. An example of a correct position is shown in the image below.
Note: in a lot of cases your indicator arrow will disappear when doing this, this is usually a good sign!
  2. Once you are in position you can press- or let go of the jump button and hold the jump button right after. This will immediately cancel your incredible leap and leave you with a large burst of momentum.
From this point the remaining steps are very similar to the hero hulk bhop.
  3. Let go of your jump button when your incredible leap got cancelled. Once you are about to touch the ground: start scrolling up- or down to essentially spam the jump input which will result in a hop that keeps most momentum that was gained from the incredible leap getting cancelled.
  4. Step 4 can be repeated until you lost too much momentum where it becomes unnecessary to continue bhopping due to the lack of speed.
Note: the amount of momentum you get from this technique depends on how much your jump bar is charged, how horizontal you aimed your incredible leap, your framerate (fps) and your latency (ping). The amount of momentum you gain is rather inconsistent.

Wall cancel

What is a wall cancel and what is it useful for?

A wall cancel can be seen as a combination of a silent leap and a leap denial. A wall cancel allows you to get a large amount of forwards momentum while simultaneously making your incredible leap silent. Another use of this is having the ability to charge your next incredible leap mid air due to the way that the incredible leap works.
In game wall cancels on their own aren’t used very often but they are usually combined with another technique. The only real usage of a standalone wall cancel is when you need to quickly cross horizontal ground and have to get up on a high ground right after.

settings (keyboard & mouse)

There are 2 methods to do wall cancels on keyboard & mouse, one of which requires scroll wheel bound to jump. If you do not want to use scroll wheel jump for wall cancel it is completely fine as there is an alternative that is arguably better!
If you want to use the scroll wheel jump method: go to your hero specific keybinds for Bruce Banner and add scroll wheel up or down as a second keybind to jump for the Hero Hulk form.

settings (controller)

There are no settings that need to be changed for controller as the scroll wheel jump method is completely impossible on controller.

Wall cancel (keyboard & mouse method 1)

  1. Find any piece of map geometry that you can jump into. This piece of map geometry does not have any specific requirements besides you having to be able to jump against it.
  2. Once you have found your piece of map geometry, position yourself in a way where if you slightly face towards it and jump to it Hulk will barely touch it with his shoulder. An example of this is shown in the image below where the red circle indicates where Hulk will touch with his shoulder.
  3. Once you are in position: charge your incredible leap and use it when ready. Immediately hold the jump button after using the incredible leap.
  4. Once you are about to touch your piece of map geometry: swiftly flick your camera away from it in a way where hulk will touch it with the back of his shoulder and cannot grab onto it. If done correctly your incredible leap should have cancelled and you will be left with a burst of momentum in which you can now charge another incredible leap.
#

Wall cancel (keyboard & mouse method 2)

  1. Find any piece of map geometry that you can jump into. Hulk needs to be able to grab onto the chosen piece of map geometry for this method to work. The most common example for this is a normal wall.
  2. Once you have found your piece of map geometry, position yourself in a way where if you slightly face towards it and jump to it Hulk will barely touch it with his shoulder. An example of this is shown in the image below where the red circle indicates where Hulk would touch with his shoulder.
  3. Once you are in position: charge your incredible leap and use it when ready. Immediately hold the jump button after using the incredible leap.
  4. Once you are about to touch your piece of map geometry: swiftly flick your camera towards it and start scrolling up or down when you are in range to grab onto it. This will grab the wall and immediately cancel it giving you a large burst of momentum in which you can now charge another incredible leap.

The Hero Hulk wall cancel bhop

What is the Hero Hulk wall cancel bhop and what is it useful for?

The Hero Hulk wall cancel bhop is another way to gain large amounts of momentum in the Hero Hulk form that can be followed by bhops, it is a combination of the Hero Hulk bhop and wall cancel. This technique is essentially a leap denial that can be used on many more different pieces of map geometry.
This technique is the fastest way to get across the map as Hero Hulk that is also usable at nearly every moment, it shares its uses with the leap denial.

Settings (keyboard & mouse)

Bhopping on keyboard & mouse is possible with both hold to activate incredible leap turned on and off but the timing is slightly harder with it turned off, play using what you find comfortable!

  6. Step 5 can be repeated until continuing bhopping isn’t worth it anymore due to too much momentum being lost.

Key takeaways and general tips

This guide covered advanced movement tech, don’t get discouraged if you can’t get something to work in the first, second or even tenth try! Practice makes perfects as with any other thing that you can learn. The order I recommend learning these techniques in is as follows

  1. The silent leap
  2. Monster hulk bhop
  3. Hero hulk bhop
  4. The leap denial
  5. The wall cancel
  6. The Hero Hulk wall cancel bhop
Get comfortable with all these techniques in the practice range first, then when you get consistent at them there: take them into quick play or even competitive!
