To expand upon that, some other areas to focus on would be: spacing, noticing patterns in your opponents movement, good edgeguarding, strong stage control, picking good defensive options, knowing what moves to play around at various health points versus your opponent’s character and current weapon, varied approach options, knowing when to change what you’re doing if it isn’t working and what to change it to. Obviously all of those things are amplified by having good movement, but you can still be do any one of those things well enough, and in some cases, better than someone with good movement who doesn’t understand how to utilize those concepts as well. And those are just some examples, there are plenty more things to this game than what I’ve listed.

A lot of people like to approach with the same option a lot. First you have to determine what sorts of approaches they tend to use. The most common one is definitely falling sair. This is especially prevalent on guns and hammer, but people do it on most every weapon. For that, if you’re standing in center stage and they jump at you, you can walk backwards as they drift towards you, trying to stay just barely outside their sair range. If you need to dash away to avoid getting hit, you can do that or you could try to spot dodge when they are about to land. Afterwards, you should be fairly close to them if you spaced their sair correctly and you can turn around and hit them with whatever you have enough time to. Some people like to dash jump throw weapons or just dash throw weapons to approach, what I like to do for them is, when there’s a good amount of distance between me and my opponent, I try to jump over or spot dodge my opponent’s weapon when they throw it. You could also jump towards them at the same time they throw their weapon so you’re already closing the distance and they probably dashed towards you. Be careful though, strong players can pose a decent threat unarmed if you mindlessly run at them over and over. Overall though, just stay out of range to whatever your opponent likes to try to hit you with in neutral. Almost everyone will try to approach and hit you if you don’t do it first. It’s good to know how to mix it up and approach them as well sometimes though, but that’s a whole other topic.

Ideally, you approach opponents that have poor defensive neutral options and you bait opponents that have poor aggressive neutral options. Most people will have some of both, but often they are more exploitable in one of those two areas than the other

If you want to bait and punish and it isn’t working, there could be a number of things you’re doing wrong. Some examples would be misspacing their attacks, not knowing what attacks they’re going to use and playing around the wrong one, not being prepared for weapon throw approaches, always choosing the same defensive option, such as spot dodging, back dashing, throwing out an anti-air or whatever else

One thing to think about is that if you’re trying to bait and punish their predictable approaches, then your opponent is trying to catch your predictable defensive options, in effect baiting you into defending yourself poorly. It’s important to understand what they’re looking for as well as what you want to look for

One way I like to practice and that has helped me improve a lot is to pick a single thing to improve at (either something you do poorly that you want to fix, or a useful tactic that strong players use, but you currently don't) and play games, ideally versus weaker opponents, and hyper-focus on that 1 thing you picked. If it's something new, try to use it all the time, even when it's not good, by doing this you'll start to learn when it is a good idea to use it and when it is not a useful option. Plus you'll build muscle memory. If it's something you do poorly or a bad habit, focus on not using it, and every time you do use it, ask yourself if it was a bad idea and, if so, think of something that you could do instead. If you don't know what you should be doing instead, try experimenting with different options, for example, if you have a habit of fast falling when you get hit up into the air and you often get juggled because of it, try throwing your weapon to cover yourself, or dodging preemptively to get below your opponent, or protect yourself with a dair, or drift while falling and then jump over your opponents attack and then fast fall before they get another chance, or delaying when you get near your opponent with jumps, recoveries, sair on some weapons, or dodges. Over time you'll get better at using multiple options and you'll learn what works well for you. I'd also advise sparring weaker opponents when trying to learn how to apply new concepts, and spar stronger opponents when you want to look for new techniques from their gameplay or learn what bad habits you have. Trying to implement new things against stronger opponents will often make it seem like they just don't work, but in reality, you just aren't good at them yet or another bad habit of yours is being exploited to the point that you can't utilize what you're learning. Once you get good at using something, it'll start to work better against stronger opponents.

This is all just my way of doing things though, so feel free to not do any of it or change the method to your liking

Cool that's pretty much all you need to know to get out of silver, you can improvise your own in training or watch some vids. Set the bot to dodge in/out/up/down/diagonal and make strings for each of them, when you're read put it at random and practice reacting to dodges

Your rank reflects how much game knowledge you have, progressing is literally learning. Higher ups punish u because they know exactly what you're doing. If you figure out your drawbacks, then you're one of them, and now you've got a new set of problems.

okay first of all. i noticed you don't use dash that often, dash helps you approach your opponent easily and generally makes you harder to hit, so practice using dash in your movement
i see you know how to do at least 1 spear true combo (dlight recovery), and other strings like slight -> double dlight. that's really good and you should do those more. overall I thought you played a lot better with spear than scythe, with scythe you were only really approaching with dair and floating around them. just in general, it helps to change up your approaches.
the other obvious thing I saw is that you weren't punishing their signatures. try and be more bold and hit your opponent when they miss a signature on you instead of running away. Being patient will help you a lot against sig spammers
also, do you know about fast falling? you can hold the down movement key in the air to fall faster

i can't really help much on scythe but I used to main spear

wp, much more usage of strings on spear that game, that's good

and you played more patiently and i did see you punish your opponent more often

another little tip is when your opponent is in kill range, don't spam heavy attacks because it gets quite predictable
and if you see your opponent dodging the same way, you can punish that too
for example, when you went for side light on spear and they spot dodged after you hit them, you can wait before inputting your dlight

you should practice doing dlight -> sair on spear as well that's a pretty standard true combo for spear

if you want to practice catching dodges, then training mode is your best friend

some people just get carried in 2s because this guy doesn't play like a plat and that's why you should try to ignore stuff like that

don't queue pls, wait

try not to over aggress when your opponent is on the wall like that

if they see you charging sigs like that you'll just get hit

it's the same with throwing out random sigs on stage, it's not likely to hit them

have you tried other spear characters

scythe is kinda hard, beginner wise. i would know since I started playing this game on mirage

if you really like scythe, keep playing it, but know there is a lot of other spear characters to try that you might like/find more success with. i couldn't get to gold with mirage because my scythe was awful so I tried another spear character (Queen Nai) and found out that I liked katars too
