It was time. The war had reached a tipping point, a point where they may have a shot at surviving. At living long enough to rebuild. The Mage Lord stood above them all, on a raised platform, shouting his words to them. "My warriors! My friends! Tonight, we fight, or we die! We sacrifice ourselves for our families! For our comrades! For our brothers and sisters in arms! We fight so we may live, and so the afterlife may welcome up with open arms! We fight, or can we truly call ourselves men and women, can we call ourselves worth anything, no matter our race, if we let this scourge defile us?" A cheer rose from the crowd as they, inspired, worked with increased fervor to set up their defenses. The traps were set. The archers were ready. In the front, a number of orcs rested, all of them in gleaming armor, wielding huge tower shields--A wall of metal and muscle, a wall that would not soon fall. The Mage Lord's magic reinforced them, flowing from him like a font of mana as the blood of gods surged through his veins with renewed vigor. The canyon's walls were covered in crevasses for the archers to reside within, aiming their bows and crossbows down towards the valley. Many held explosives, too, handmade charges rigged to detonate--A new invention, by one of their great alchemists. It was far more volatile than regular gunpowder, making it a beautiful weapon against the demon threat. The dwarves, behind the orcs, formed a second line of defense with their long spears and tower shields of their own, braced with branches to give extra stability. The elven blademasters were ready to split among the demons, their keen curved swords able to slice through flesh without much effort. They worked best in their trios of warriors, among swarms of the enemy. Their master archers were concealed all over, the mages sitting on their perches to fight. This.. Was the time of the final battle. The end of the Second Demon War.

They were wiping us out, killing us where we stood. We couldn't stand up to them, nobody could. I killed three. Only three of them." For a Blademaster, the man knew, it was typically far higher than that. "By the gods, it was horrific. All I could do was hide. It was.. It was death out there. And I can face a death by humans--But those monsters? Those fiends? Please, gods, no. Don't let me see another of them. I.. I couldn't handle it. They vanished--Some spell. The Mage Lord damn near sacrificed himself for it. Killed the demon king himself. But.. That wasn't good enough. Nobody was prepared for the sight--The walls were caked in blood."

The next, they were behind our lines, killing us left and right. Not even I could sense them. We were lucky to stop that wave--But when they crashed into us? They overpowered the orcs. They slaughtered every one of them. When it was all over, there was.. There was so, so much blood. All colors. Red, black, some of it colors we'd never seen anything bleed before. There was.. Almost a blanket of corpses. Men, clutching pictures of their wives and children. Old women who were still strong enough to fight, clutching their children in dead hands. Dwarves, ever the honorable and fearless sort, with expressions of desperation locked on their faces. I.. I ran. I couldn't bear it." He was openly weeping at recounting the tale for the tall man. "No more. I.. I'll finish the story another time."
The man gathering details simply nodded, stepping from the door. He'd gotten all the information he'd needed of the demon war.
