The card says "when you play it" (not "when you open with it"), but dodging into it seems not to hurt. It should self-damage when used in this way. (Also maybe when pumped with? I'm not sure)

Pretty sure pumping (as in, using the card to pump another card) is not playing. We had this discussion about one of the Shadows characters. Dodging into it is playing, though.

on the other hand, sirlin recently clarified that pumped cards are counted as played during white storm, so i've got no clue whether it counts here rn

I stand corrected! In that case I think it needs some further clarification because pumping a card with Y and taking self damage is kinda silly. And it's even more silly in the case of the redacted Shadows character

I would expect dodge, dragonheart to trigger life loss but not pumping with dragonheart

Confirmed, Dragonheart should definitely self-damage when used after a dodge or as a combo card. I'll fix.
