Leona's story
[Collapse]
"So, this is their house?"
The small girl with two thin flowery braids of red hair raised her head, and at that moment, the hot afternoon sun passing through the thick leaves and branches made circles on the rugged ground. The small girl took a step back, afraid to burn her feet and back that had supported her for so long.
This was her first time coming to laibulun city, and it was different from aidun city; here there weren't any modern skyscrapers, and everywhere you looked there were only short and dilapidated buildings. And those adults walking among one another ... they were expressionless, hurried, even unwilling to glance at Leona.
Close by, Father was holding an intercom and instructing the demolition team. Those building faliing again and again, were just like a building blocks pushed by the wind. Even having passed through sound protection, the sound of construction material hitting the ground was still deafening. As she timidly looked at the locals, she wondered if they would be angry at losing their homes.
But till the end, no one glanced at Leona and her father.
[Rebuild]
The toy that Leona loved the most, was the birthday present she received when she was six - a box of toy building blocks. Even though they weren't colourful nor pretty, the only slightly interesting design was that they had six magnetic surfaces that could attatch together. As a free gift, the box of building blocks also included a few wooden dolls, which could be put in many different funny poses. It was obvious from their clothes and looks that they were all part of a big family.
From the start, Leona liked to copy the instruction booklet's pictures, building a variety of exquisite buildings. From a wooden hut in the forest, to the princess's castle in the fairy tale, and the vampire's house, the cost of the beauty of the building blocks were that none of the wooden dolls could fit in, and could only stand guard outside. After accompanying her father to work that one time, she suddenly destroyed all her previous creations, and the wooden hut and castle became a row of neat buildings, and while it was not pretty, the wooden dolls could just fit inside.
When Father curiously asked his daughter why she did so, Leona thought a bit, and quietly responded, "I wanted to give the dolls a house."
[Creation]
"Senior Leona!"
Hurried footsteps rang out behind her, and a tall and slender girl, with a file in one hand and a box of maps in the other, turned around. Upon seeing who it was, her tense expression loosened and melted into a warm smile. "What's up?"
"This term's practical project, has it changed from the hot spring house in the outskirts to the sanatorium?" The junior that had just joined the school half a year ago was so hurried that her uniform tie was crooked, and Leona could not resist helping her adjust it.
"Oh, you're talking about this, I'm sorry that we could not inform you in time. When the holiday was ending, I inspected two areas, and even though the hot spring house was planned to be enough, the scale of it was too large, and it would require a lot of manpower and time. Whereas the sanatorium project, ... I can only say it will be quite challenging."
"The time for the workers to move out includes the cost of the dormitories, so the construction of the sanatorium must be completed within a short time. Assuming the area for the construction doesn't change, its capacity has to increase drastically. As a public service facility, it probably won't be very pretty, and won't get an award. If you want to leave, I will transfer you to the project manager of the hot spring house."
"That's not what I meant!" Afraid to cause a misunderstanding, the junior raised her hand and hurriedly interrupted Leona. "As long as I can follow you, I'm ok with any project!"
"Haha, in the school's opening ceremony this year, your speech left a deep impression on me. I also want to create a safe, stable, and trusted world! Even if it's not regarded as the most beautiful..."
"... but rather as the foundation for a road." Leona gently added the second half of the sentence. She then reached out for the girl, and smiled. "Welcome."
The roar of the fall of the magnificent building years ago finally sent an answer today.
