Hey guys, before you decide to hire a builder, hear this out for a second.
One thing worth considering is that popularity and visibility don’t always mean compatibility.
Some of the most beautiful and immersive environments I’ve seen were made by smaller or lesser-known builders who are genuinely passionate about their craft and put real care into atmosphere, composition, storytelling, and detail.
I’ve also been in situations where I was asked to redesign or improve projects after the original build failed to match the client’s vision — including builds from popular builders — so I’ve seen firsthand how important artistic compatibility and work ethics really are beyond a builder's fame and ubiquity. And to be clear, those builders may be handling many projects at once, experiencing burnout, creative fatigue, builder’s block, pressure from constant commissions — all of those things are very real in creative work, especially if they depend on it for a living.
But there’s often a noticeable difference between work created primarily for visibility or rapid commissions, and work created by builders who are genuinely passionate about their craft. So sometimes yeah, quieter creators can be the ones making the most meaningful spaces for you.
If you’re looking for a builder, it’s always worth taking time to visit their portfolio (not just pictures), their design philosophy, and the feeling their spaces give you. You should also ask the people who have worked with them, and before you decide to entrust them with 5000 components, it's probably wiser to test a small or medium build first to see if you get your money's worth. If you're satisfied, you can always ask them to continue.
And if you’re an underexposed builder who’s genuinely passionate about your work, feel free to share some of your favorite builds in this thread. I’d genuinely love to see them. 🌹
