Been spending more time with my male wanderer lately. Guess I'm photographing him now as well.
Posting more casually taken photos of my male and female wanderer
Captured entirely in-game. No external edits or shaders. Just me, my wanderer, and the camera.

Sitting here for a while because of all the sparkles around him
Basic composition but here's hoping his face carries the photo 😆
I love the male counterpart. A quick question... how are are you able to take very clear shots? I'm seeing similar screenshots from other folks and I often assume that it's due to an external editor. Since you're not using any, do you mind sharing what you're doing? I've tried on my own and I don't get as clear of an image (even when I use the setting in photo mode that's supposed to do a higher quality image). For example, here's one of mine:
Make sure soft light mode is off, increase contrast, adjust exposure sliders and lower bloom sliders for clearer faces.
Yeah, I typically work with soft light off, but I'm thinking bloom's probably the culprit for this particular one. I'll fool around with your suggestions and see what I get. ty!
I just posted a variety of my faves in my thread. I tend to play with allll the sliders lmao. 😄 Bloom is almost always culprit in my shots >.<
This might be a bit wordy, so I’ll keep it in points. Also worth mentioning I play on max graphics, which helps a lot with texture clarity. Most of this is just trial and error, but here’s what I would’ve adjusted based on your example:
- If the focus is your character meditating, I’d go with a longer focal length (around 85–125mm) and raise the camera slightly. Right now the rock is taking up a bit too much of the lower frame.
- Use aperture to introduce some bokeh. It helps separate your character from the background and adds depth.
- For color, I’d nudge the hue slightly warmer (more toward red), but lower the temperature a bit (unless you’re already around 5100–5450K) to keep that colder Liangzhou feel.
- For bloom, I usually keep a rule of thumb: If bloom threshold is very low (-90 to -100), intensity stays low (around 3–8); for your shot, I’d try something like -60 to -80 threshold with 8–12 intensity.
- In-game ambient lighting is pretty flat, so I always use manual lights. For the key light, I’d go slightly warm (around 8–10 color, 20–30 saturation) to mimic sunlight. Then add a second, cooler light (bluish, around 54–60 color) at low intensity from a similar direction, but spread wider to soften the scene. Use third light to emphasize things you want.
- For contrast, 42–48 works if you’re going for a softer/dreamy look. I personally lean a bit higher, around 54–59.
- Use wind direction and speed to add motion to both the hair and the reeds. It makes the shot feel less static.
- If the background or reeds get too bright, lower exposure slightly (around -15) and add a bit of vignette (10–15) to bring focus back to the subject.
- Click on settings on top right corner and use "Ultra quality." Detail level should be at "High" as well.
Thanks for this, they're very helpful! I can definitely use these to create more vibrancy. I have moments when I prefer something being more flat, but there are many times I want more depth, so these would be fun to try.
No. 9's definitely the one that's easily missing. I didn't know that setting existed (only the 'low, medium, high quality' settings embedded with the other options, which don't seem to do a whole lot). That's made a marked difference, so thanks for that info!
It's a portrait photo, but who cares when he looks like this 😆
His eyes' spacing might be a bit wide actually
Replaced original portrait photo with updated portrait photo (...lazy, I know 🫠)
I don't think he's saying hello to us
Is he blatantly posing at the camera? Yes, he is 😆
Really appreciate when someone share long explanation like this 🙂
Will try these tips
She's napping in the snow (as long as you ignore that she's still sitting)
Didn't want to post game cutscene, but the lighting on him was too good to not to.
Somebody's feeling bashful
your character is so cute!! i saw your post on reddit too <33
Thanks! Discord is where I mainly post my characters
