Honestly it's complicated to tell, I just take whatever look good 😭

If you want some theory to unterstand:
Learn and try Basic compositions like symmetrical shots, framing etc.
And knowing about what different focal length and aperture does helps as well (so like basics of photography)

And then just try and fail many times honestly. Or just try many times without theory is okay too I cant tell how serious you are about it or if it's more for snapshots.
It just takes time to develop the eye for it, for some it comes easier than others
