how can i make her look better

My first thought was: her face might be a little bit narrow, especially considering the size of that hairstyle. Like, her eyes and lips look a little bit crowded against the face width. I think it's due to narrow face width slider and/or even narrower V-shaped chin (caused by jawline and jaw angle; jowls to a certain extent). Oh, and if--for one reason or another--increasing spacing/width of jawline/jaw angle is not preferred, lowering the height of jawline/jaw angle helps as well. Of course, if you are 100% committed to stylization and not semi-realistic face proportion, then just ignore my rambling. Anyways, she looks great already, and it's great that you are trying to improve her design! 🙂

Is that your character as well? To be honest, I think jaw shapes are already quite similar between these two characters. Jaw and chin shapes are definitely in mercy of people's preference, so I don't want to be too assuming. For instance, as you can see in the image attached, my character's jaw is a bit wider, so if you are not a fan of that width, my advice might not be all that effective for your character design.

I think you’re leaning toward the CN face style, but the chin is a bit too V and the hairstyle doesn’t really suit the face. Maybe adjusting the face sculpt or changing the hairstyle could make it look better overall (just my opinion)

originally i was trying to go for a more slender looking face but im not really good at doing that lol

honestly i just wanted a more masculine look but im not sure how to do that properly

Ohhh, that's a difficult path. Honestly, that male character was probably chasing feminine look while being designed. 😆 This is beyond my ability. Maybe you could try reducing her eye size?
