How to create a new character (its recommended to name change)

⚠️ You will not be able to move any rewards or items/purchased anything to your new character ⚠️

• this will cost you $5 to change your name if you choose to do so. If you want a free method, contact game support to delete the character
• you should keep login details of the throwaway netease account
• you will not be able to use the same name as your old character unless you change names

for anyone wanting to create a fresh here's what I did to create a new account, I'm using steam but should work the same with epic/psn:

1. get past the tutorial and character creator so you get open the menu
   Addition: Change your name to something youre ok with not using: #1439055200198328320 message
   if youre afraid if losing your name, load into the WWM launcher version and login with the throwaway netease account. Change names after you defeat the tutorial boss
2. open settings, then go to "Other" tab - you might need to scroll right to see it
3. open the "Bind Account" menu, select NetEase and use a throwaway email to create NetEase account
4. once bound to the throwaway account, you can use the "Customer Service" option at the bottom right
5. select "Unbind account" the select steam/epic
   if youre unable to see unbind, set your game language to english and restart the game.
6. once unbound restart your game and you'll be able to create a new character on your new account (linked to steam/epic/psn, not the NetEase one)
   confirmed by community members to be working

Yes. Steam or PS creates an account for you. Even if you don't create character it is count as character because game gives you UID.

@rugged cypress For those who want the old name, you should probably add that they should wait to beat the first boss and get to the naming screen on the new character before they change the old name. On Legend difficulty it could take a while to beat the boss and the old name meanwhile might get taken by someone else. Name gets freed up in 30 minutes after renaming.

I made a throwaway NetEase and bound my steam to it, paid the $5 to get my name changed so I can use it again, logged in with real client off steam, unbound steam to remove dummy character from steam account then requested deletion for dummy account. Went back to steam and was able to create again.

The big caveat versus beta was you have to double tap expert for it to open a menu to choose Legendary, during Beta they was all just under each other, I don't know why they put it nestled together on release. You have to expand expert now to see the other difficulties and that's why people are missing it thinking Expert is the highest available.

Reading through all this. No I'm not paying them 5$ to remake my character. I wrote an email to support. They can either fix this or loose a customer. The fact people have to go through this many hoops and then also pay money to keep their name is a joke.

They're wanting new character slots so they can have a slot for the opposite gender

And to try harder difficulties such as legends

some people also created a random character just to test out the game and when they wanted to create "the good one" found out that they're locked on only one character without option to delete it and start over

I created another account and went through the process because like many others I was placed automatically on a difficulty that I didn't select due to the UI change and had to remake to be able to choose it as Legendary is locked out if you don't choose it before character creation. Legendary gives you titles and rewards you can't get on any other difficulty.

I started playing on ps5 it auto assigned the server so got ping about 400ms...and i got stuck with a name which i was just trying without confirming....heard from people pc players have good choice of getting nearby server and better ping...creating new acc sounds like a hassle so i gave up...and will make do with it

if you linked the accounts and the rewards are already in the mail, even if you didn't claim them, I'm afraid they're gone

in the future they'll add the option for more character slots, but they don't work as characters but as accounts and they don't share anything between them, so the rewards will stay anyway in your first character

yeah nope. This is one of those "quit moments" that you want to avoid in game design. It's not on me. And they're not getting my money for a name change I don't need. you just need to bind a netease account. then go to customer service (in game settings, keep hold of triangle/v?) and then click on unbind. you can do it without contacting anyone, thats how i transferred progress from pc to ps even though i played on ps for a bit.

follow the instructions in the beginning of the thread step by step. You have to launch the game on the main client outside steam to then launch on steam again clean with a new character prior to unbinding, you pay to change your name to free it up so when you make your new character you can use your old name

You don’t need to link Netease at all for pre-registration rewards. You will get those even on a fresh account. I don’t know how long the rewards will be available but as long as they are, everyone gets them.

Yes this is how it works. When you unbind your PS account, you start a new character and you can bind that to a new Netease account. But you don’t need a Netease account at all unless you plan to play across platforms.

Anyways I don’t understand all the hype behind this game. A lot of no-lifers here who wants to run around collecting stuff, clearing outposts and what not. For me the game world is beautiful and it has some nice combat, but that’s it. Nothing spectacular. It’s super grindy and has bad translation, not to mention the totally confusing story. QoL does not exist in this game.

I did step 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. I'd just like the old name back and when I tried to get it with my new save, then it said it was taken. Do I just have to pay $5 to change the name to the old one, despite it saying it's taken? I checked in-game as well, and when I find the character under that name, then it looks identical to the one I first created. So what I did was contact them via email (which I hope is the correct way) to ask them. But I've not received any response yet.

Did you start playing on Steam before you linked Netease with Steam via launcher ? That to me is the only explanation why you have two different characters.

Next time if you restart, I suggest that you simply start from Steam. Forget about launcher or Netease. You can link Netease any time from within your character settings in Steam.

Anyways don't worry too much about it.
It's not a big deal if you ask me.

Yup that's another stupid design from the devs.
Only the launcher has it. Steam starts with a new character from the start unless you link it to Netease BEFORE, using the Launcher. So you technically need the game installed twice.
