second is also the bottom of the truck is so close to the ground that its very easy to catch on rocks
the cruiser actually sits pretty high

also, in fairness, the cruiser does use unity default wheels, which are pretty bad in their own right

only a single point at the bottom of the tyre has "collision" with anything
and if you're curious why this matters, for vehicles going over rough/extreme terrain, that extra contact could help the vehicle get over obstacles and shit

we also had an issue in v72 where I (client) could hear music but another client couldn't
it would also benefit from some of the fixes on my van too..
that could be a few things
could just be that when the client booted the game it didn't find that particular station
happens on my van sometimes
could also be that it failed to preload stations entirely, which is mostly fixed on my truck
it can still happen but it's pretty rare
restarting the game usually fixes it anyways
you'll know if it failed, either from:
the big red wall of doom and despair in your console
and
no radio stations working at all
they were a late join, idk if that matters
that could impact it, but i have no idea since i've never tried late joining with the radio playing

im just saying the lobby opened without a radio, they joined, sometime after we bought the radio, and they couldn't hear it
if no station worked then it probably failed to preload stations

This is the truck I usually end up driving every day. It has the Caterpillar C7 engine with 250 HP, and a 6-speed Eaton Fuller transmission. Good engine, but very difficult to start in the cold. The idle goes up at the end of the video because I set the CC for a high idle.
the rest of my sounds are pixabay/freesound
these are the only exceptions
the truck ignition is an annoying one, pretty much everywhere i looked just doesn't have what i need
the vanilla cruiser ignition noises are from an old Volkswagen Polo which is lightyears away from what i need
i mean, i guess i can try contact them, if not, i'll try find another noise online and try get the uploaders permission as well :p

You know you probably could get engine simulator and record the sounds from the program. Since their generated and fully simulated copyright is non existent plus you could make it sound like any kind of engine you want.

Not too difficult: if moving check for if wall next to collision box (collision box put like slightly a few pixels away from the side), if wall or object in box? Play scrape sound, as long as wall in collision box loop sound, if wall not in box? End sound, if not moving forward? Also end sound. Something like that.
Now randomizing samples and stringing them together seamlessly might get messy.

but hey it's all done now, both the scanvan and v55 cruiser are properly updated, and they now use a Shared folder for any copied vanilla assets, and i knocked out a couple issues on both of the vehicles while i was at it
All maintenance is good maintenance as long as nothing breaks
and most importantly of all
my windshield material isn't fucked up in v73
so i'm happy
I've got a little request if you care,
When zeeks added the bird he also put a cap on how much damage the cruiser can do instead of it being infinite if moving fast enough, I would LOVE if a mod like this could revert that change or tie it to a config option.

the issue with this is that it just one taps the bird with the old damage values
even if it's like, barely going that quick
my truck used to have the old values pre v70
and when i was playing around with my truck in v70
it just one tapped the bird
the bird is meant to be super tanky, its a giant woodpecker
and with the huge durability buffs to the vanilla car, i feel like it's also a "fair balancing change"
i have no interest in reverting this behaviour as of right now
having a cheap, nearly indestructible red box that can one tap anything incl the woodpecker which is meant to be extremely high risk and relatively high reward just rubs me the wrong

i also think it would be really funny if in the event of a serious collision, if you have the lapbelt on, your body gets sliced in half
and the lower half stays fixed to the seat
and your top half flies off

i've adjusted the voice alert system to use a simple queue system on clients, and only the ignition chime, thank you and special warnings can interrupt the currently playing clip (like the host) otherwise it adds it to a client queue, this should prevent any cases of an audio clip suddenly being stopped due to netlag.

oh i broke the eva in a weird way, if the hood goes on fire, it will start randomly repeating one of the overheat clips until the car regens enough to extinguish the flames

Having the engine running charges the battery, and ill also make higher engine rpm charge the battery faster too

It'll only drain if the engine isn't running and, right now, only if you have either the lights and or radio on
low beam high beam and radio have different rates at which they deplete the battery
it's only minor differences though
Actually to be realistic make it so that you can turn them on even when the engine is on and make the drain 3x slower when the engine is on and to slowly recharge when they are off and the engine is on.

turning on systems (lights, radio) with the engine not running --> drains the battery
having the engine running --> recharges the battery regardless of what is on
you can turn on accessories regardless of the engine running or the key being in, but if the engine is not running, it will drain the battery
hmm, i know it's an automatic car but i could probably make it so that if you roll it, and then switch it to drive, it might get the engine running
which could work in the event of "flat battery"

i don't have a controller but hopefully the keybinds i added should allow you to steer using a controller (you can change them ofc but right now they're left stick and right stick for gamepads)
the keybinds appear to work on my keyboard, so i'll assume they work on controller
for controller people, auto centering is probably a good option to turn on haha
the updated networking appears like it's working fine too
i've also refined some of the configs and deleted redundant/unused ones that i wasn't a fan of
i think later today will be continuing on with save data, i would like to make the car remember even more, but we'll see

Most of the framework for gears is there I just need to implement a clutch which is going to be a nightmare and I already know it

i've added a quick patch to fix my vehicles audios not using the correct sound mixer which caused stuff like tzp effects to not work

you could already get high before, i just fixed my audios not getting distorted haha
it's a subtle thing, it also won't work with morecompany since that removes the effect entirely, but its nice to have for people who don't use morecomp

ofc i'm going to keep it, it's just a minor fix to make my audios use the correct soundmixer
as the one that is bundled in from the gamerip won't work properly with custom effects
when you inhale tzp for example the audios are meant to get all distorted and funky
and it does that through a global soundmixer that many audios base game use
so I somehow made the van invincible after fucking up some cooldown logic, whoop, and I don't have access to my code until tomorrow
I did however make a bunch of collider fixes, and now the v55 car also takes damage properly, so this is a half win so far
my vehicles are haunted man
somehow the push triggers didn't have is trigger set on only the scanvan

it looks similar to my scanvan haha, but that's not surprising since my scanvan takes design elements from old GM trucks/vans, and the hauler is a GM based truck
which is really evident by stuff like this 4x4 badge which was on the old chevy silverados

so since it's a GM vehicle i'm going to make it immediately blow up the engine as soon as you try to start it and the frame will split in half due to rust /j
