It's that way to prevent issues. For example if you decided to delete or rename the profile while installing, or install another mod while it's in progress

you can scroll the modlist in custom order setting by putting your cursor with the item at the very bottom of the window
however this is really buggy and you're better off dropping it at the bottom, scrolling, grabbing and repeating until you find the required spot

How do I see which version of Gale I'm using? there used to be a version text at the bottom right but i dont see that anymore
With Gale, i added "FacelessStalker" to my pack, and even after loading in game with it and in a moon and everything, it hasn't generated a config file at all
I'm gonna do the same with r2 and see if that fixes it

Hi, one question: Does anyone know where are the profiles saved using Gale? I found out that this is not like r2mm where you go to %appdata% and then you find it in its folder

seems like clicking a link in the description of a mod (i.e. LethalApertureDunGen's link to Lethal Aperture Moon) causes Gale to permanently (?) freeze

I assume you mean mod updates. You can still update the mod by finding it in the mod list and clicking update (or change version). Alternatively you could edit the profile file manually, though they're stored as uuids rather than readable mod names. It's also worth noting ignoring a mod update is just for that update; if the author publishes a new version it will show up in the Update All list

direct is not working for me anymore
i've been trying to open two instances of the game with the 'direct' launch mode, but the game doesn't open. it still opens fine when it's set to steam but not when it's on direct for some reason. is there something i didn't do right here?

we just did some testing on this as well
in our first test it crashed during loading due to not being able to access a method it needed from high quota fixes
once we deleted and reinstalled that it was able to get past loading, but still disconnects my friend

Go to the gale data directory, then cache and FlipMods-TooManyEmotes
then BepInEx/plugins/FlipMods-TooManyEmotes and see if there are files there

just finished checking with a flushed cache, it still doesn't allow them in, and i still get networkconfig mismatch errors in my console. They said the code download failed 3-4 times before it finished, so maybe that has something to do with it?

it was failing to get the mod list in the first place thats why i switched to gale
we finally got to join a lobby together by just having them reinstall r2modman
r2 decided to work again after a fresh install so i guess we'll stay using that until gale can fix whatever issue causes incomplete downloads

On gale's end it was saying it had the right amount, and every mod that was in my code was in there, but some of the mods were empty in the actual installations
Which is what led to the network config mismatches
When we noticed it we did a test specifically when it finished fetching
This could also be a case of them needing to clear their cache and make sure the cache folder is excluded in their antivirus
The location of some mods had an empty folder named assets instead of the actual items in the zips like usual
antiviruses are a pain

Gale is fantastic. Thanks for this clean and responsive application π I love how it loads TH in the background instead of locking me to a 5 minute wait before i can actually look at my local mod list like TH and R2 does
I also really like that it remembers the last filters I used for TS even after restarting the application
One thing that I think would be convenient, is if a mod has a changelog, I could view it from the confirm updates tab before updating it. π

@umbral herald Looks like the bug came back with Gale where it fails to get the config for HookGenPatcher on a fresh profile
Something I noticed with HookGenPatcher is that it comes with a config file in the download, however if you delete that config and let the game generate a new one, the values in the config will be different. Not sure if this has anything to do with an issue you have but thought it was unique enough to mention. I just provide the one that comes with the download in my Modpack since it seems to have additional values
Yeah this is what I meant, when making a fresh profile it downloads it corrupted atm, this happened before a while back with Gale too and Bobbo fixed it

Hello! Firstly, your manager is incredibly fast and performant, it helped my friend with low pc setup, thanks a lot!
Secondly, I can't get "Install with Mod manager" button to work - just nothing happens. latest.log is empty as well π§
not the end of the world but I would love to be able to left click drag a mod and scroll smoothly
right now it just makes scrolling harder and you end up dragging another mod on the way

okay, lgu now works like you showed, but mirror doesn't and 2 of my suits I made don't work either (I'll local test those with a local build though)
That's hella weird, gale is ignoring dll's it seems

I manually download that, and the File structure is BepinEx > plugins (dll is here) > moresuits (Suit texture here)
But in the version Gale downloads, it doesn't have the Mayu.dll
when given a config with an enum flags type, BepInEx resets the config to default value if no value is specified, so using Gale to turn off all the options resets the config to default value instead of using no options
placing a 0 instead of leaving the config string empty stops BepInEx from resetting it to default
flag type enums are shown as a list
you should not be able to set it to an empty string
unticking all options leaves the config blank, which when the game is run creates a BepInEx log saying it couldn't read the config and that it reset it to default options
i'm suggesting that instead of leaving the config with blank, empty string, it should leave a 0 which BepInEx reads and interprets as 'no flags'
if your enum does not have a name for 0. then it's your issue tbh. but i get what you're saying now
0 could still be a flag tbh

what i was referring as not beeing good practice was the fact that somebody uses Flag Enum 0 as another flag.. which not only confuses users, but def also confuses the code π

in my case i just didn't name the 0 so it gets a bit confused when no flag is set
i think deciding on what to use as empty value is not a simple thing for Bobo.
remember that Gale can only use the comment in the config to decide how and what to show to the end user. so all it can see is a multi-choice option that could easily be a List of Enums π€
probably AsyncLoggers is not the prime example as the LogLevel has a overriden description in BepInEx π
perhaps just show the same as it does now, but if the user unticks every option, place a 0 instead of leaving the space after the = blank?
i believe 0 should be interchangeable with any named 0 option
that's only if the entry is a Flag Enum, a List of normal Enums would have almost the same description i belive but will complain about 0 not beeing a valid value on load π€ ( i'm not 100% sure on this, maybe enum lists are differentiable enough )

Yeah, and it looks like if the value is left blank BepInEx will simply ignore the option while parsing. When the option is later bound by a mod, the default value is used
Enum.Parse can both parse the flag names (separated by colon), and integer values
So setting it to 0 when no flags are selected sounds like the best option, as then BepInEx will read it as just that, 0

I added an exception to my entire profile folder with my AV and when installing through Gale, it still doesn't add the dll

I wish I could help out more with diagnosing what's the problem. Gale logs don't show anything. Even when adding/removing mods lol

Hey @umbral herald ! I decided to try something, remember when Gale was complaining about Bepin not existing? I decided to delete the Default Profile, make a new one, and this is what's in the core folder
Kind of a bug, kind of isn't. The component library just works like this and I couldn't find a way to change it to only allow one open. I know it's annoying but also really annoying to fix

I've found most of the time a third party AV isn't really better than Defender and just makes false positives more common. In reality using Defender is best along with just general knowledge to avoid viruses and stuff most of the time if you're worried adding on Malwarebytes suffices nowadays
i've had defender cry about a zip file because it used a compression algorithm that a trojan used like years ago

Hmm ok. The thing with the last one was that it felt squished and the most important things at the top didn't get enough space. Also it feels like most of the time you don't care about the mod list, so having it take up so much of the screen and pushing the import button all the way down is bad
Maybe a hybrid could work where you still have the expandable list, but if you expand it the popup widens as well
but that could feel weird feedback-wise because the window expands

Something similar happens to me when updating the readme in my modpack, gale become partially unresponsive and the preview no longer updates; icons are unclickable.

It should be compatible, but there's something weird going on with the latest r2modman/tmm update. Seems like the mods and config are installed, but the mods just aren't recognized by r2/tmm
You can try importing a gale-generated profile into tmm and check if the mods are there in the files

It's intentional in the sense that doing it the other way is a lot more complicated

hi, i think they are a problem with gale or r2modman/thunderstore, cause when i give to my friend the code of the pack that i create on gale, they cant import the profile on r2dmodman/thunderstore
my friend cant import code or launch lethal using gale.
Have seen that issue only once before with a friend and thatβs an internet issue not a mod manager issue
can confirm only occurs when sharing Gale code to other Mod launchers
but using code from r2/thunderstore works perfectly fine

Yeah you're right it's a really minor thing. The reason I brought it up was because it always rubbed me that the logo is blue, but the "standout" color of the UI is green. Which leads to gale not having a strong brand color that everyone associates it with. It's not optimal, but would be more of a problem if I was selling gale.

Well, imagine I have a profile with some mods and I wan't to add mods on it by importing them from code, instead of deleting every mods and then adding the mods from the code, it simply adds the mods from the code and dosen't delete the mods already installed previously on the profile

Recently had to reinstall windows and now I cant get gale to launch π¦ Anyone had the issue where after you install gale it just sits as a background process at ~450MB memory usage? Uninstalling/Reinstalling doesnt change anything :/

okay it was a me-issue
I installed a compact version of windows which comes with a lot of "bloat" features disabled. I went through enabling some things and was able to get the window to appear
could have been a handful of things so I don't wanna point you in any specific direction. I wasnt exactly going through each thing one by one to check if gale worked
But I guess if you get any reports of it in the future, good thing to ask would be if they are on a modified version of windows

i made like one small desktop app before, but I've programmed other stuff for a long time
and gale has also went through a lot of changes, I've probably worked more than 100 hours on it in total

As an accessibility feature of sorts I think it'd be really great if when there are a number of consecutive checkboxes, every other entry had a darker background element, like so:

@umbral herald Have a bug to report, looks like string config items (that do not have a config description) with a blank default will get updated to have their value as "=" when changing any other config item in the file. pretty sure it's because the config item doesnt have a description because I wasnt seeing it with my own blank string config items

This also happened to me with InfectedCompany, when I left empty the keys to activate Infected Mode

Could you add a feature where updating a mod in one profile updates the same mod in all other profiles?
That could be annoying, idk about others but i often keep older versions of my packs as seperate profiles to easily compare and rollback between in case stuff breaks between updates, so i certainly wouldnt want a mod to update in all of those
Once you update a mod that version is cached anyways, so updating the mod to that version in any other profiles should be instant since you arent downloading it again.

Load into a lobby completely, and don't just go to main menu. Then close the game and check Gale again. LLL will refill the rest of the config.

not sure if it's standard, but from my experience, r2modman looks for an "author" field when adding a local mod, it would be cool if Gale could be consistent with this so that installing a mod locally could apply to an existing mod ID
Small issue I noticed the other day but if you try to import a profile from r2modman that has a local mod and is named "Default" it causes Gale to get stuck in a crash loop until you delete the game's folder in gale's AppData
I fixed the import failing by removing the local mod then importing it but ofc the crash loop is the main issue with it (even though maybe it should just skip mods it can't find when importing π€)

I'm feeling exceedingly stupid right now. I cannot figure out why BepinEx isn't kicking in. I had to reinstall my computer, so I just dropped the old Gale config folder in, that worked all fine seemingly. I run game, no log, nothing when hitting menu (as I would see changes). Been trying a few things. Like I cleared the profile folder, and Imported mods fresh, still nothing.
On Linux. .deb version. Not sure what on earth I'm missing.
I'm not sure it's a Gale issue, but it could be. No error messages or anything in the log. All seems proper on that end, but no bepin when it launches on steam makes me think something is off.
Ok I suspect it's some issue with Steam doing protective things, and probably no fault of Gale, if anyone knows, let me know. I'll post ifI figure it out.

Moving mods up/down the pack is bugged
if the page doesnt need to scroll at all then its fine
but attempting to move a mod across multiple pages where it has to scroll, results in the 2 mods swapping places
Notice BepInEx then dissapearing when i moved that other mod to the top
So right now you need to gradually move it down the list, 1 screen at a time to avoid it teleporting the mods up/down the list
this isnt just with whatever mod is at the top, any mod ofc

just a question about Gale in case anyone else has already seen this before! I ported over my profiles from r2modman which included a LethalPosters mod, but when I launched the game with Gale I was getting this error in the console (and obviously the posters didn't load in game)
checking the profile directory, it's true this folder doesn't exist on the path
but when I check the manual download for that mod, it does have the posters directory, it's just empty (which ends up working as intended)
I guess my question is whether or not Gale might be removing empty directories when installing mods or not or if anyone knows of a way to fix this other than manually creating the directory (which is what I did already to get it working haha)
to me it kind of feels like LethalPosters shouldn't be exploding if that directory doesn't exist, and I guess I could write a patch for that, but I digress haha
