I said it a long time ago when the idea was first pitched, having a system that softlocks you without an alternative can be very very frustrating
I get how it can be frustrating, but I do want to have the mechanic implemented in some way.
The apparatus pull closing them is imo the best implementation thus far. It's a direct consequence of the player's actions, and thus the player can choose to avoid the source of frustration in many ways

Like a timer with a sound or even some VA going something like "power-source compromised, closing store doors in 20 seconds" or something like that

Im mostly playing into the nature of pulling the apparatus not really having any consequences beyond messing with lights.

Vents are impractical to model and generate, and again, it would defeat the purpose. If players can leave by themselves then the risk factor is heavily reduced

No I concurr, the doors being tied to apparatus is fine. The issue I had was when it was tied to the time and store closing, I still think the store closing at night should be a thing like 2-4 hours before midnight they start shutting but this way at least the doors are a deadly threat but a very avoidable one. I also think it's good because it reinforces the habit of making sure everyone is on the same page which players even with mics and walkie talkies still don't do even though they can communicate easily.
If the rooms are inescapable then at least the threat should be preventable and avoidable which this version would be.

if you used the counter script and instead made it fast interactions but you need to do multiple to open it that would work

interact trigger (takes 2 seconds per interaction) -> counter script (counts 5 interactions) -> trigger opening animation (opens after 5 interactions for roughly 10 seconds before closing again)
that way if multiple people worked together you could open it way faster
10 seconds roughly solo
5 seconds ish with two people
etc.
it should be 20-30 seconds solo

At 10 PM you really wouldnt have time for this. It's gonna take an ingame hour just to get back to the ship, so getting stuck in a store at this hour would pretty much be joever
a lot of malls close around 8-9 pm
8:30 could be a good time, gives you a good amount of time to pry open doors, loot, and get back in the ship if your quick enough
10 seconds is enough time in some cases

but preserving the whole pry doors open thing
The interior is massive and is gonna have excess loot, so limiting how much the player can collect is a bit against that. If they get greedy and collect too much to bring back to the ship, thats on them
so then… dont pull appy until the day is almost over…
or only do it if youve cleared the stores
that way you dont need to worry about prying doors open

Or just dont make it the appy mechanic at all and just make some doors rarely closed by default and you need to pry them open to enter the store (make it quick though)

If they bring a beacon they can carry scrap back to the ship and open it permanently while theyre there, so it would still work for solo players
if you add something that requires multiple people, then it entices them to communicate a bit more

slap a name and lethalbundle tag on your LLL mod and make sure its all connected to the different parts to register the interior
you should only need it on the LLL mod assuming its all connected right

theres a wonderful thing called convex mesh collider
but dont overdo them
(dont put them on anything with hollow parts)
ok lemme explain colliders
box colliders: manual, realistcally you want to use these on all your prefabs.
mesh colliders: perfectly creates colliders automatically but is unperformant on big meshes
convex mesh colliders: useful for cylinders, objects that are complex enough to warrant a basic shape but not a cube
so you want mesh colliders on the tile mesh itself
convex on things like pillars and other large but sorta complex objects that dont need to be walked through
and box colliders on props and prefabs
thats how i did deepcore
cave tiles are mesh colliders
stalagmites are convex mesh collider
annd basic boxes are box colliders

All your models in Blender should have proper materials with textures assigned, then when you import to Unity you need your textures to be in your Unity project with the same names. If you have the textures in your project before your FBX models, the textures should be automatically applied with the materials."

The One piece is real!
Basically take the player model and cut off the hands and feet, sperate it into 2 parts and make recolors, then add textures to make them look like different clothes.
Probably to start for shirts: t shirt and button polo.
Pants: khakis and jeans.
We can add more later if anyone feels up to it, but just those 4 in like 3 different colors just to keep work light. Nothing too complicated.
Oh and maybe like make a mannequin for them to go over. Would also be funny if some mannequins appear blank without clothes.
