You'd have to network a dialog box and ask each player if they want their voice recorded, then you need to somehow know which specific option they chose.

Well that doesn't really work since it's the other players that have the mod, you uninstalling it doesn't mean your voice isn't potentially recorded. It's the same kind of thing as someone using recording or clipping software, you have to just trust that people won't use it.

rug is making the skinwalkers be standalone creatures. Though he has said he plans to keep a version for other creatures to in either another mod or through configs

Idk if there is a place to report bugs, but this does not work with the Freddy_bracken mod or any mod that messes with the braken's sprites, you will get stuck on the loading screen forever

My friends and I just played with this for a while today. We came up with a safeword to identify each other and something called out our safeword in my friend's voice who I knew was at the ship, so that was top 5 scariest moments of my life

Yeah actually a great idea, IDK how feasble it is but you could re-write it that their home point is near the doors so it makes sense even more so and will trick more people.
IDK how much it would change balance though since they would sometimes be gathering for you but it's a horrific new risk so I think it balances out getting a few items free rarely.

hey just popped in cause i was playing with a group of friends and one of them said that they kept getting an error that kept saying "http://404 not found"
i just made a modpack for the first time and followed the steps, and it worked for everybody but him

It’s random. Mod just records audio. Saves it locally. Randomly plays it. Deletes the files after game close (and periodically too)
Any idea why one of my friends hears phrase said from previous planets and is the only one who can hear them speaking even though I set up the files for all of us which means we have everything installed matching perfectly? also is it supposed to be only dead people talking or it just repeat phrases that were said?
it can be living people. My friend called me a dumbass and few minutes later a bracken said his own lines

Looks like it steals the players body after killing them and becomes them I think. It's moreover just a quick glance but it's somewhere along those lines. I'm going to test it in-game right now to see for myself. though browsing through the code there is no voice mimicry in sight

So from a bit further digging looks like it grabs a player and kills it and then takes over it's corpse. It works like the normal player and even will be teleported back to the ship like a player. There's something here about a mask or other that I still have to figure out but it seems like a one-for-one of the possesion thing you were wanting to do
I first I thought this would be a bad addition that would hurt the idea of the skinwalker enemy mod but actually wouldn't this be a good opportunity to use that ai and build upon it?
adding support for the new moster would be a must of course. I wonder if you can make it only id the recordings for the possesd player and send those back. Wouldn't really make sense for a jeff lookalike to be speaking in bobs voice

maybe should look into actually networking so that all players hear the same clips for the mod then. I honestly think hearing yourself is way more funny too since you would go back and forth with your seperated friends trying to get them back to you while arguing with your past selves voice

That or you can keep going with the original idea but either keep the skinwalker enemy in the facility or transition it to always be that terrifying thing with no body doubling but still uses your voice and hangs in the shadows

You can still make the enemy, just ditch the fake player idea and keep it as a lure enemy that attacks like the flea or something similar. Would hate to not see that through after the work put in

not really my friends and i are able to tell whether its a skinwalker or not very easily by the fact its saying something completely different at a completely different time
you could make it align without it being server-sided i bet
thats why its most effective when ur split up
like uh would it be possible for it to be client-sided but like theres some kind of algorithm or set way to choose which sound will play
like if it chose the 13th newest recording for example
and it refreshes the count everytime a lobby restarts
that way it would be aligned

having a bit of a problem, the mod isn't loading and throwing an error saying "targtting bepinex 5.4.2200"; I have installed through Thunderstore, where the BepInEx plugin is currently 5.4.2100; have installed 5.4.2200 manually (for my own purposes), but it seems the thunderstore one is overriding the one I manually installed? and thunderstore won't let me remove their version of Bep because it's a dependancy for every other mod installed... does anyone have any workarounds or fixes outside of manual installing outside of thunderstore?
Originally I thought the same, until a buddy and I happened to hear the exact same voice line which made it much creepier. We had both heard a third friend mumbling, then said "Hey bud is that you?" and heard him laughing. We both ended up dead and learned that the third friend never left the ship that whole game 
It'd also be neat to be able to hear ourselves (if the audio was synced for all), that way when spectating we know what's freaking out the living players

Hey @wispy wolf I had filed an issue on the github before about this same thing. I did some extra testing as you asked, but I couldnt find any common threads between the people who get the stutters and those who dont.
People who get the stutter had nvidia rtx 3060-4060, but so did people who didnt get the stutter. Plus i doubt it has to do with the graphics card. We all have like 16gb+ RAM and at least intel i7 9th gen+
I was able to at least identify exactly what pops up on the console when the stutter happens and took a screen using the newest version. My friends with the stutters also had this pop up when it stuttered. Note that we are using LateCompany and MoreCompany and thats it... The stutter happened with 3 people, and all the way up to 10 people as well, so group size didnt make a difference. I also noticed a lot of log messages saying the folder was getting to big or something, and in parenthesis how many files there were before it reset them? It varied between 30-100 max i think. Also tried reducing the amount of enemies who produce the sounds (granted only turned 3 off) and the frequency to 0.5 in the cfg, had the same amount of stutters...
@gloomy hawk whenever u get to play again would you mind also checking your console so we can identify whats going on? Also, what mods do u have and what was your group size?
It doesn't make a ton of sense that it stutters when loading the audio files since it should be doing it asynchronously. However when it's loading a ton of files, maybe it results in a stutter? The problem is I've personally never had any issue with this, and I don't know why it only affects some players. In a lobby with 10 players, you should be generating and loading pretty much the exact same amount of audio files, which would mean you would all stutter (which is why only affecting 3 is confusing). Changing the config won't change the stutter most likely, because the config doesn't dictate the audio recording process, just the playback.
Does it stutter when you see "Got audio file path" or "Loaded clip from path"?

the ssd and hdd factor could be good to look into! i have had problems with games stuttering when installed on hdd before, but that was a different pc and i have very intensive games play without issues on my current pc, but i will look into it and ask my friends about their specs too! thanks for ur attention (; hopefully pzk rubie replies later with some more info that could help out

Honestly having played the new update for 5 hours the mask creature is pretty lame as an enemy. It never gives the impression of it being another crewmate as its clear as day that its the monster
