Just wanted to share my experience as a new player in Gray Zone Warfare. I’ve been absolutely loving the game despite being fairly new to this kind of tactical shooter—and despite having some technical limitations (I’m on Starlink, so yeah... packet loss and lag spikes are pretty common HAhaa ).

I’ve played about 40 hours over the past week and just hit level 7. I mainly play solo PVE, although I team up with a friend once or twice a week. I chose PVE because it lets me learn the mechanics at my own pace without worrying about getting sniped while looting or navigating objectives.

Most of my time has been spent doing tasks, unlocking landing zones, clearing COPS, looting and selling. Today, I decided to finally invest and spent 18k on decent gear to improve my survival chances. Things were going great—until I got one-shot by an AI. Frustrating, but fair enough.

I tried to recover my body, but on the way back I died due to a lag spike just as I was aiming at another AI. When I finally made it back to my original body, I discovered I couldn’t loot it anymore—apparently, you can only loot the most recent body you died at.

While I can see how that might make sense in PVP, where gear recovery is part of the risk/reward, it feels unnecessarily punishing in PVE, where we’re only dealing with AI.

Wouldn’t it make more sense if bodies in PVE servers persisted for 30 minutes to an hour before despawning? That would give solo players or those with bad connections a fair shot at recovering gear they invested in—without affecting game balance too much.

Curious what others think, especially veteran players. Am I missing something here? Either way, I hope the devs might consider adjusting this for PVE—it would make a big difference for players like me.

Thanks for reading!

Only being able to loot your most recent body is a trade-off for nobody else being able to loot your body in PvE.

Additionally, it's important to have a consequence for death and removing gear from the player pool is a critical feature to help manage the economy.

I would just add that there's a big misconception that gear is difficult to come by, it's not. So while I understand it hurts to lose a built up M4 or DDM4 etc, it isn't hard to get back out there and find everything again fairly quickly or make enough to just build another kit.

Otherwise you'd just end up endlessly running back to your body until you got your gear back, no one would give up until they did so you'd potentially have this mass pile of bodies somewhere from having an unlimited amount of attempts to get your gear back.
