I would like to leave the compass disabled most of the time unless I'd like to specifically check my bearing, it would be great to have a hotkey to turn it on and off, or, not as good, an option in the menu to disable it.

I'd love to see a physical compass along with an animation that we have to interact with to get that information.

You can disable the compass in the settings. But a real Compass in Hands to turn on and off would be better.
