Water sprite hates substrate and hardscape?

I was checking if all my plants were rooted correctly and I noticed my water sprite was upset with the soil, so I gave it a rock, and it hates that too. It's a stem plant, so it isn't a floater. So what's up?

The game was unpaused between these screenshots, so am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

The plants are just very slow to decide what they want.
I'm not sure if it's a bug, but it's definitely a bit annoying.
According to googling it, those plants like rock
So like leave it on a rock for a while and leave the game unpaused.
No death mode also might cause it to be unhappy

It's been like this for an in game week

I can put it in my inventory, put it back, pause and unpause.

Is it the same solution?
