@tardy frigate - I'd focus on simplifying the core gameplay. Custom animations, playsyles etc are window dressing that seemingly lag the game's responsiveness.
I'd suggest base level mechanics that are broadly consistent that improve purely on base stats and playstyles only give a preference for a particular pass type, tackle type etc when situationally relevant.
Upgrade paths / evos through in game rewards with store pack shortcuts.
Fix base gameplay and lag then build out from there.
