#Skill moves in UT

For ages now, I've been trying to learn how and when to use skill moves in online games.
One of the things I've always loved to watch is high-level players chain together skill moves to score insanely good goals.

I've gotten to the point where I have a relatively good bag of tricks I can use consistently to create chances or give myself some more space.
But one of the things I've noticed more and more over the years is that skill moves are slowly becoming obsolete, with players instead opting to abuse whatever meta is in fashion.

I understand that for some, this is a welcome change. But to me, being able to use skill moves consistently and effectively should be a part of the game that is rewarded, and gives players at least some advantage in games.
It's a part of the game that, to me, should be more of a part of the skill gap.

Unfortunately, this year, with the boosts to AI defending, constantly inconsistent gameplay, input delay, and soulless metas, skill moves are less and less effective.
This is something that I've even seen with lots of high-level/pro players, who've now opted to use L1/R1 dribbling in matches, and only occasionally use skill moves (other than ball rolls).

I'm not suggesting skill moves should be boosted so much that they're overpowered. Instead, all I'd like to see is them become a viable option again. Something that can be used in every game, and not just games where the input delay and unstable servers aren't causing you to play a mind-numbing version of football.
