This is definitely a step in the right direction regarding the defensive AIs behavior as well as improving the attacking AIs movement in the box. However I feel like more could be done. This update obviously feels like something was changed but it's not necessarily enough.

I got around the 25 minute mark in the FC Direct for the 1.2.0 update and the main problem with the game was said right there,

"players are depending on their defending AI rather than taking manual risks to win the ball back. This let's players basically focus on controlling their CM instead of switching to defenders to who just win the ball back effortlessly." "This change will not completely remove those behaviors if someone wants to play this way"

But why? Why should someone be able to play that way in COMPETITIVE gameplay? The defensive AI should not be tackling the ball under any circumstances. NONE. The defensive AI should do no more than lightly track unless they're used in the second man press, in that case they should contain and apply pressure but never tackle or perfectly intercept the ball. These kinds of actions should only be preformed and perfected by the user.

In order to balance this I would suggest removing the assisted option in the gameplay settings. It's far too effective and practically takes user error out of the equation. Removing this option would also reduce the effectiveness and speed of counter attacks.

Saying this I believe Clubs would benefit from changing their gameplay from competitive to authentic. Slower more realistic gameplay makes perfect sense for that mode and will allow competitive to be worked on appropriately and not with that mode in consideration when applying updates or tweaks to the AI.

I understand why everyone uses CM/CDM players to defend and it will continue until EA nerfs fidget spinning and all the unrealistic spinning in the box which is far from football.

Just activate team press and then put your hands away from the controller and wait Till you have the Ball … Just try it … it actualy works 9/10 times your AI will win the Ball for you without doing anything

For those who play clubs also check in your settings to have the club player indicator opponents back on visually if that's something you're used to having. The new patch EA removed the icons. In the settings under visual you can put it back to default so all available users are visible during match. FYI

@lament lance @regal kiln The only reason most players dribble like they currently do is because of the defensive AI. If I didn't have to break down 2 walls of 4 or 5 defenders on every attack then I know I'd play a little more realistically.

You don't even need to hold your controller on defense as the AI still marks too tightly, closes gaps too quickly, drops back way too far (including midfielders) and still tackles and will intercept the ball for you.

If you two want a more AI controlled game then go play efootball.

You don't understand my point.
Yes, what you said is also true, but the main problem was after the release that fidget spinning and that the defenders didn't defend at all, no matter how much you anticipated the moves/passes, because the defenders were so slow and heavy.

After the first update the gameplay was still good, even they improved the defense, but I don't understand why they nerfed the attack, but not that unrealistic spinning.

I don't know how many updates this latest one was, but now they "nerfed" the defense and "buffed" the attack, as a result of which the bots do everything for you and you focus on the CM/CDM defending that fidget spinning player..

And I don't understand why EA realizes that if they nerfed that unrealistic spinning completely and balanced the defense and attack, we would have a game that everyone would enjoy again. Hopefully!

But as you can see all the problems started with that unrealistic spinning. Everything else has been changed from this game except for this problem.

@regal kiln the problems started when the first update buffed the defensive AI. Since then they've also made jockeying faster and more responsive in order for you to deal with "fidget spinning".

If the dribbling is still too quick then it might just be a skill issue.

I prefer the slower gameplay too. But I'm also not having a any issues stopping players that just dribble in place.Just don't rush at them, watch the runners and time your tackle.

I definitely wouldn't mind a nerf to it but I'd rather the developers focus on getting the AI in the right place before doing anything else to dribbling or attacking.

Maybe this game is just too hard for people like you.

Fidget spinning is just turning fast with the left stick
Aka using agile players to turn rapidly and try to disorientate the opponent into a wrong tackle.

The problem with this, imo it's about how women are programmed, they keep having way too many pros compared to men
They are more agile and stronger

Women in each FC were more agile than men but they could be ran trough easily and every shoulder rightfully resulted in a loss of the ball due to their poor physical strength, that was the catch and the exchange, agility for strength.

Instead, now, not only they are more agile, but also much stronger, shoulder to shoulder tackles often won't work, and sometimes they even jump higher than your tall players which is ridicolous.

With how jockey is now, defending against players spinning isn't that hard, but it is against these type of women

Another thing that should be addressed are fullbacks tracking runs

In other FCs I used to defend high and use right stick switch to prevent trough balls on the flank, now this often doesnt work
Even if the fullbacks are selected before, anticipating the opponent intention, they still get outrun weirdly and don't track for the ball

It's much more profitable to let the AI defend for u rather than actively switching to select different players and apply manual pressing to regain the ball, it's a game that doesn't want you to play for some reason

I really don't get it. They make not playing the game more viable than actually playing it.

It was even addressed in the last stream thing they did and said someone should be able to play like that if they want to.

Fidget spinning isn't a thing it's just the left stick circular movements, it always been a thing In every FIFA

Some are really good at it but they play on the fact they know you'll fall for it

The gameplay is actually pretty good right now BESIDES the servers being terrible as always (only get good gameplay after midnight ffs...) and FC IQ being a mixed bag AT BEST with many roles simply not working (Inside Forwards only trigger in the final third but otherwise hug the sideline, most fullback roles simply don't work outside of Fullback - Defend and Falseback, wide mids don't track back to defend in a 3-back formation even if the player has Wide Midfielder++ or Winger++). They need to fix the servers (buy more in more locations, and don't settle for bottom of the barrel hardware) and fix FC IQ.
