Defending only works if you have Van Dijk. I'm pretty sure there are other professional defenders out there last time I checked - so why can't they defend, and seemingly, only Van Dijk can?
Nerf that overpowered joke of a card, or, ensure that other defenders who have good defending stats can actually defend, and not behave like soaking wet tissue paper when trying to challenge the opposition.
On the subject of Van Dijk - guys an absolute unit IRL - a Prem Icon. BUT, he is NEVER catching M'Bappe, Marmoush, Malcolm or Colman in a foot race - yet he will... Every time... It's a joke. He is not as fast as the aforementioned players (HE HAS 73 PACE REMEMBER) - so why does this game always allow him to win the upper hand in a foot race? No one, not even VVD himself is as good IRL as he is in this game. No one.
I reckon teleportation has been discovered by accident in this game - Van Dijk CANNOT be absolutely everywhere all at once. Even if on the slightest of off-chances you do get past him, your attacker will take one of the worst first touches ever to grace a football pitch, giving VVD all the time in the world to catch up. It is made so blatantly obvious that the game favours him every single time, which is ridiculously unfair and blatant bias.
You can be 10 yards ahead and he will come barreling behind you, doing seemingly 4 and a half times the speed of sound and will ALWAYS catch you, even if you have a card with 90+ pace.
