PC - Controller input still does not register on a rivals game.

Sick and tired of this bug/issue.
Game starts, and icon on player is orange instead of traditional red or blue. Controller inputs do not work, but pausing on controller works. How does this make ANY sense? 6 weeks into the game and still the same issue from day 1 launch. Any workaround? It is incredibly frustrating having to lose 2 games because of a bug,
