Tackling just doesn’t work properly right now, and it’s ruining how people play. Using the advanced defending button (A/X) for shoulder tackles, pushes, or sealing out attackers often does nothing — there’s no animation, no contact, and the dribbling players just keep spinning around freely. The B/O standing tackle still has huge recovery times like last year, so even when you time it right, you get punished while the attacker skips away.
It’s the same story with jockeying. Holding L2/R2 feels too slow to keep up with the fast, fidgety dribblers. You can read the play perfectly and still can’t get close enough to challenge properly. There’s no balance between attack and defence right now — it’s all one-way traffic.
And this is exactly why everyone is sitting deep and controlling their CDMs. Tackling doesn’t trigger reliably, so people are just letting the AI block everything instead. They’re camping their defensive line, not because they want to, but because it’s the only thing that works. The gameplay is rewarding passive defending instead of rewarding good timing and manual control.
Defending should be about anticipation and precision, not waiting for the AI to bail you out. Please pass this to the gameplay systems team — tackling needs to respond faster, have proper animations, and actually reward players who try to defend manually.
