I'm currently playing Career Mode on Ultimate/Authentic difficulty and it's simply way too easy and most matches just feel very similar, mostly due to how safe the opposing AI is playing it. So below I'll break down the issues I'm currently experiencing with how the AI behaves:
Offensive Behaviour
- Rarely attempts risky forward passes, preferring safe options instead.
- Easily forced towards the side line, leading to either a safe backwards pass or a hopeless cross into the box. While these two actions are reasonable, they don't ever try to take on your defender.
- Uses skill moves in extremes: either spams them or never uses them at all, depending on whether the Competitor sub-setting (Legendary/Ultimate) is enabled. A more balanced approach would be preferable. This could also help with the point above, where they never take on your defender.
Defensive Behaviour
- Offers very little direct challenge to the player.
- You can maintain possession easily without meaningful pressure.
- It's often possible to dribble past multiple defenders without contest, only losing the ball due to a collision or obstruction.
- Slide tackles are extremely rare, even when success seems guaranteed.
- As a result, opponents rarely commit fouls, while you score excessively, leading to unrealistic match outcomes.
General Behaviour/issues
- The overall tempo is consistently slow.
- Greater variation would make matches more dynamic, as some teams should play with higher tempo while others remain more methodical, or something in-between.
- Handballs are often silly and unrealistic. Most occur in odd situations, like when a player could simply lift their arm while taking a touch.
- Having this setting turned on with Penalties enabled leads to multiple penalties per match, purely due to how poorly it's implemented.
- In many cases, it wouldn't even be considered a handball in real life, the arm position would likely be seen as being in a natural position, for example.
- Having this setting turned on with Penalties enabled leads to multiple penalties per match, purely due to how poorly it's implemented.
I honestly think last year's AI was pretty decent, it's sad to see how dumbed down the current AI seems to be.
