You do have aoe, but it's still pretty mediocre of a spec and longterm there's so much less of a future than other classes have. The main issue is that BM has lack of support from the KR devs outside of heavenly slasher and puncture. It seems like they really only want people to play those ones. They did some minor buffing to damage for fire and lightning but the core issues aren't addressed
Lack of aoe for fire, really long cds for tab skill, weird modifiers for soul badges, and draw stance losing all passive block to name a few.
Having to spec block+crit dmg on soul shields is terrible because it means in the long run you have worse crit rate than other specs/classes will get

The only part puncture is better at is the crit rate
