I agree with your idea that there's no harm in putting the idea out there! But I think I also (currently) agree with your conclusion

Snanks for taking the time to write it out!

I don't know why people would expect an achievement from this. I do think it'd be nice to have a way to see where there are congregations of snails, or to choose to show others that you're having a congregation or group - but in a diegetic in-game way that doesn't necessarily rely on discord. Because right now, it's hard to coordinate without using discord, which is a pity.

It's actually the opposite, there are many games with mentoring systems and they don't necessarily give out an achievement for it, in my experience, as that gives out the wrong signal. At most they will allow visually distinct signs for people who volunteer as mentors or are involved, but it's more of a responsibility thing than anything else. The trick when you're designing systems is to design for people and more specifically, gamers. Gamers' sense of what constitutes a "reward" or "goal" isn't necessarily congruent with what you'd find irl, because we gravitate towards games for many different reasons.

Anyway, even if there's an achievement, it can be tweaked too... for example by allowing a snail to "thumbs up" another snail (as an emote) and get an achievement for having that happen once. It's not a high bar to pass, but it sets up the game expectation that helping each other and showing gratitude for it is viewed as positive by the game.

That's beyond your suggestion, though!
