i'll try to separate this into categories and multiple Messages since there's a lot of different bits here.

general UI:

splash screens with a Dark Gray BG is ok but the 0,0,0 Black of before was cooler IMO, though i am an OLED user so i'm biased on that. love me some glowy Logos that look like they're floating in a void.

i don't like the loss of UI Bloom and UI Interference. the Bloom IMO looked cool. the Interference helped hide the extremely Aliased underlying nature of the UI.
i don't like the extremely Aliased look but now that's what it is since the Interference is gone. i had assumed the purpose of the Interference was to cover up the Aliasing of the UI without having to do much more expensive Anti-Aliasing on those elements.
also completely losing the CRT effect seems a bit unfortunate. it's not necessary / that important but a little bit is cool, i'd say? like a lot of VFX, the dosage makes the poison. for many things a little bit is cool, a lot is gross.
ergo if People didn't like the UI Bloom, you could have the default strength be lower as well as tweak the fade distance to be a bit shorter (glow doesn't reach as far from the elements out into the screen but is the same amount of overglow).

i... do not like the Chromatic Aberration on the UI. at all. that's one effect that i don't like, at all, ever. only time i've seen it used in a way i liked was like Far Cry 3 using it to help with simulating the feeling of being on Drugs. but i would never want it to be a 'normal mode' for anything in any game.
plus the Chromatic Aberration makes the UI look even more blurry and/or Aliased.
all the time i keep on thinking i need to clean my Glasses or i have some gunk in my Eyes or whatever, as some piece of the UI here or there will look especially blurry or diffracted. except no it's not that, it's just the UI.

Character/Selection & Equipment Menus:

  • the Gradient glow background stuff on Character/Selection Menus is a mixed bag. it causes quite a bit of Color Banding. it probably looks okay in HDR / 10bit SDR, but not everybody is going to be using those, some for not knowing better some for making an intentional choice based on certain pros/cons.
    • and again there's the Dark Gray which isn't as cool as a very deep Black to me.
    • and similarly the Gray block of the Modlist is.... idunno, eh. but you're already going to make some changes with that so i'll leave it there.
  • not a fan of the 'shrinking circles' transition effect. but i've also never been a fan of smooth scrolling of my Scroll Wheel in Browsers. i've always felt like this makes it harder to see things and is more visually annoying than having nothing.
    • every time this transition happens i end up blinking since it's a full screen scale transition between Colors.
    • the panning effect on the Skilltree Menus could use some Smoothing/Dampening. just a little bit so that it's not bouncing around as much.
  • the new upgrades/drop pod/vehicle/emotes block could use a slight background behind them or something like that, their visibility is a bit wishy washy now.
    • also the Account Level text could be raised up vertically? it's pretty close to touching the Characters.
  • the black outline around the preview of Mod shapes looks fairly good, though being above the Tooltip rather than to the left means it can easily end up off the edge of the Screen sometimes.
  • there could stand to be slightly alternating background colors when selecting an item to Craft for on the Crafting Menu. without any there's no visual separation of the items until you hover over something.
  • the Menu for upcrafting Scrap looks good!

Mission selection / Map:

  • if you want to have the Biome names on the Mission Map be 'white' for legibility purposes, it'll probably be for the best for the names to be hanging off the sides of the Planet with some angled lines tracing them back to what region they're attached to.
  • the tooltips for Threat 1-4 currenly always say 'this is unavailable' rather than what their cute name is. unlike 5-7, which do express their cute name.
  • the Swarm Intensity selector has bad visibility now, a Player could easily not notice that this selector exists at all.
  • the zoom in&out of the Planet regions with how the Elements are depicted now does look pretty nice, though.

and as a final general note...
certain UI elements give a slight impression of being... blurry? now.
for example, the list of active buffs on the left side while playing, or the Ability Descriptions in the Character Selection Menu. those elements didn't feel 'blurry' before, but they are now.

oh shit, we can set a custom UI Color? neat.
would be nice if i had the option to input a Hex value rather than trying to fumble around with a tiny and imprecise Gradient sheet.

Certainly the most detailed criticism of the ui. I could get behind those complaints. Especially the chromatic abberation and the upgrade grid piece going off screen.

True black is an important thing for certain. And I had noticed but didn't think anything of it

not being pitch Black isn't the end of the World, just doesn't look as cool for me in particular
on Displays with less Contrast it would have already been a little bit gray so i get that it's a really niche thing since not many have Displays like this anyways so i'm not expecting the World to design around it stylistically.
