I want to delve into a topic we don’t usually talk about in a realistic-type game like inZOI: Ghosts! 👻

Does anyone here believe in ghosts—or maybe even claim to have seen one? It’s fascinating how different cultures interpret this phenomenon. For example, Korean folklore considers ghosts as souls that remain in this world because of their unresolved grudges, refusing to move on to the next life.

For inZOI, I wanted to take a slightly different approach by connecting ghosts to our Karma system. If a Zoi dies with enough karma points, they move on to the afterlife, but those who don’t make the cut have to remain as ghosts until they restore sufficient karma points.

I like that this keeps Karma’s cause-and-effect mechanics intact while also giving ghosts a more meaningful purpose. But this raises an important question: What happens next after a Zoi does become a ghost? We want to keep the playability of ghosts fairly limited so it doesn’t overshadow the main gameplay, but we also want to make sure the experience is engaging enough when it does happen.

For transparency, the Early Access version of inZOI will focus on gameplay for while the Zois are still alive 😂—so any further development for ghosts will have to come after the release. That said, our current build allows you to encounter ghosts at set times under certain conditions. While you won’t be able to control them just yet, you can interact with them through special conversations.

So, what kind of encounters with inZOI's ghosts would be the most compelling for you?

  • A creepy atmosphere where you don't know when or where a ghost might suddenly appear?
  • Emotional reunions with deceased loved ones in heartfelt, tearful moments?
  • Chaotic, mischievous ghosts who bring unexpected humor and joy to daily life?
  • Or something completely different?

While we’re committed to refining the realistic elements of inZOI first, I’d love to explore more fantasy-driven elements in the future. Occasionally stepping away from the game's native, ultra-realistic setting could add an extra layer of fun to our simulation of this vast and complex concept we call life!

I would love if ghosts were tied to either people or places important to them during their life. These places could become known as haunted locations in the world and add to the game's internal lore. Also random encounters where a living zoi may hear or feel the presence of their deceased loved ones before they move on, would be great!

This is very interesting, how will the ghosts mechanic work in the early release ? How often we can expect the appearance of ghosts and how much will they interfere with the gameplay itself ? For example in the sims 4 when a ghosts visits a household the sims there tend to get scared and have other negative moods and because of that you can not make your sim do certain activities as the negative feelings impact it.

It can get pretty frustrating at times, especially if there is no feature to turn off the ghosts appearing out of nowhere.

So I wanted to know if the team has considered these potential conflicts ? And will there be an option to turn the appearance of ghosts off ? HeartWaddle

I’m most interested in emotional reunions for sure ( I am a story teller at heart) I feel like sad emotions are often minimized in simulation games while humor and chaos is prioritized. They’re welcomed, of course, but I would love the choice to decide or at least influence that.

Within that same topic, I’d love if funerals were considered as well. Or Zois deserve to honor their loved ones when they pass on!

I agree with keeping ghost gameplay minimal, it is a life simulation after all!

I honestly love this idea so much! I feel like each encounter you mentioned would be really kool depending on whatever storyline we’re playing for our characters although I do have a personal favorite that I would look forward to which would be the emotional encounter with loved ones, there’s so many different story lines we could create with each and every encounter and I’m excited to see what other ideas and narratives others would use them for in theirs and other ideas for interactions they may come up with 🙂

hi! Honnestly I'm not really interested in ghost and never been. In games like this one I hardly play with them and can be annoyed if I they're to visible. I prefer to play with life and a focus of how the livings remember the deaths. If ghost could be a feature we activate or not it would be nice.

I feel like the way you encounter the ghost should have some dependence on how the ghost behaved when they were alive, like maybe certain personality traits could be passed on in the stage between life and rebirth. if the zoi was a thief or someone who really liked to mess with people, they could be more mischievous. if a zoi was not a great person but still extremely loving toward their family, maybe they could have the positive reunion. if a zoi died in an unnatural way like drowning, fire, or car crash, they could be the scary and confused zoi. i feel like that concept really ties to my understanding of ghosts and why they are the way they are. either way, i’m sure whatever you do with the game will be great.

I love the idea of ghosts being tied to the Karma system—it adds such a unique layer to inZOI’s world. Personally, I'd love a mix of eerie, unpredictable ghost encounters and those deeply emotional reunions. A sudden, chilling presence in an otherwise normal setting would really enhance the immersion. But imagine also having a moment where a Zoi gets to say goodbye to someone they lost? That could hit hard.

Also, mischievous ghosts causing lighthearted chaos? Yes, please. Poltergeist pranks in a realistic sim? That’s gold. Can't wait to see how this evolves post-Early Access!

Many games has ghost and supernatural beings for example the sims4, I assume you yourself may have encountered it in some way or another and even if not, it would be quite "mean" so to speak to completely not have this aspect and while your suggestions to have a toggle for this or have users choose between permadeath and such, you gotta remember, they want to add substance and playability to as many aspects of the game as they can to entice as many people!Psycat_Blush

I do believe in ghosts and I enjoy the idea of them in the game. However The Sims have done ghosts in their game and it feels lack luster it doesn't feel creepy or scary enough. I would love to see haunted places and give us a paranormal investigation job. That would be amazing. I want my Zoi to actually be afraid. Unless we are fearless

Oh man. These are all great ideas. I think a lot should depend on the ghost's personality during life, which could carry over into their afterlife. If they like to pull pranks, for instance, maybe they keep moving things in the house around. If they were very spiritual, but have some unresolved karma, maybe they stick around until someone helps them resolve that karmic debt. If they were murdered, maybe they need to help someone find their remains.

All the variants are interesting and each one serves a purpose, but if the ghosts of good weights do not appear, how are the emotional encounters justified? In the Sims the possibility of the character becoming a ghost is 50%, I don't know what the reason is or if it has changed over time. I suppose that whenever a Zoi has an unfulfilled object, it becomes a ghost, otherwise they will always be feared because all those who do negative things will stay to continue causing chaos.

Please just don't make them annoying. I hate it in the Sims, when a ghost comes and destroys all my appliances, so that I have to repair multiple things in the morning.

I second this. If there are ghosts in the game i understand some people might want to play with that. But maybe they could make an option to "send them to the afterlife" or something that kind of sends them away and gives us the option to not play with them if we dont like that sort of thing. Like you said, its a fun topic for some but not for others

It depends if ghosts are add in the lore of the cities, I think, first of all. Not only for decoration, but as active parts of the story. Or stories depending on the city.

Like first habitants of a city happy/unhappy to see how their city has changed.

Or ancestors caring for their descendants and voluntarily staying to help them.

Or a funny ghost obsessed with cooking and found harassing new chefs, trying to give them advices.

Or timid ghosts having seen a theft in an house at night and not knowing how to inform the policemen.

Or a ghost grandma secretly helping children to find the sugary treats their mother hid.

Or a group of ghost teenagers wishing to redecorate the police station to their tastes.

For me, all propositions are worth it. It's mostly a matter of storyline.

It would be nice if not all zois could see ghosts, and if zois wanted to communicate with ghosts they would have to go see "a shaman". It would also be cool if zois with a "clairvoyant" trait were the only ones who could see and interact with ghosts. Then the "shaman" profession would be dedicated to helping ghosts move on to the after life by helping them with regrets, etc. In that case encounters with ghosts could be all three - creepy, emotional reunion, chaotic, and even more.

While I love that inZOI is so realistic, I'd really love to see more fantasy elements added to the game in the future.
I'm excited for ghosts, but later on, I'd definitely love to have more supernatural beings in the game, like witches, vampires, fae, sirens, werewolves, etc. Things like that. I'd really really like that. Please consider adding them to the game. 😊💜
As for the ghosts, I would go for a combination of the examples of scenarios you presented, but if that's not possible than I'd choose the creepy atmosphere for sure. 👻

I am leaning towards creepy encounters, I love the idea of zois seeing something they might think is a ghost, or ghost showing up randomly at certain times as long as it's not too frequent as that would become annoying. I saw a comment about not every zoi being able to see ghost which I think is a good idea, to add to that I think there should be zois that flat out see ghost and other zois may see shadows or orbs or wispy light moving in the darkness. All this with the option to engage or ignore it of course.

It would be cool if perhaps on certain dates/during certain weather events/ect, we could see even ghosts who died with good karma lurking around their graves. I really do like seeing character reunite with their loved ones sometimes 🥺

Ohhh this gave me ideas for how alive Zois can react to ghosts! A personality trait perhaps, something like “Believes in the supernatural” vs “Skeptical of the supernatural” . Someone who believes in ghosts could react a certain way, while a skeptic might see this and think they are imagining things? Something along those lines perhaps! I can see a couple of Zois going to a “haunted” location to ghost hunt, and how one would be startled by ghost interactions, while the other shrugs it off

I would like to see all three types of encounters realised, but they should be based on the Zoi's personality and relationships before death. For example, it should be a heartfelt reunion for living Zois they had a good relationship with, but that same ghost could be a menace to Zois they didn't like. But if ghost had very negative Karma during life or no close relationships, then they would haunt places and terrify people.

Cemeteries would be a nice addition for ghost to linger and for loved ones to visit to help the ghost build up karma points if bad karma points were present. That could also be a place where ghost could follow you home. Lol but I don’t want a ghost to randomly pop up in my house uninvited 🤍🙏

Ah it made remember a fantasy book I read with a woman working in a match-making agency for deceased people.

Young people who died and their family wanted them to marry another deceased person so their children wouldn't be alone in the after-life.
Ghosts heared about what she was doing and decided they wanted the same. Forgetting people actually sleep at night. It was so cute and hilarious I loved it.

And another one with a shaman working for the police and law firms. Like someone from the descendants wanting to be sure the will isn't forged. Or documents hidden while the person was alive and the ghost wanted speak of them to their partner.

And they could even help people communicate with their loved ones that passed away.

I don't see why we need to exclude things from people who want them when these would obviously be toggleable. Ofc no one wants supernatural lifeforms to be a priority, but we're talking far down the line.
Just like you can uninstall a DLC in the Sims and toggle supernatural lifeforms in settings, I'm sure any other life sim would do the same 'cause even people who enjoy them want to play realistic sometimes

This could corporate with careers in exorcism of yokai and/or spirits. Having fantasy/action like careers could really highten the gameplay. Maybe even others involving affiliations with learning how to work/become a grim reaper after death, or involving spirits growing stronger based on how their objectives to increase energy(in a good or bad light) and over all having to do with the after life that only sims who choose an affiliated career can do. For example not everyone having the ability to see spirits as some can be born with stronger senses or energy's. Those with stronger energy's can interact with spirits/yokai and the after life and so on.

I believe this would be pretty exciting as you can essentially live 2 lives in one as not every ZOI can see what you see. It's essentially a different world 🌎 animeyes deadx2 ghostcry meltghost

There's the subject too about the fact they became ghosts because they didn't have enough karma. What happens when they settled their karmic debt ? I guess they would disappear.
But what if players get attached to one particular ghost ? Or if became part of a story they're creating and it's going to disappear ?

In my family, we think of ghosts more like our ancestor's spirits. Often at times we'll get dream visits, for when sick and need comfort, or when we're facing a harship that they've experienced and they guide us down the correct path to peaceful outcomes. I was visited by my late great auntie when I had my wisdom teeth pulled out, and it was so surreal it felt as if she was right next to me calmly patting me on the head.
So personally, I have never experienced bad spirits/ghosts, but very good ones whom are like guardians.

Perhaps there could be an impliment in the Karma system that if a Zoi has completed all their family goals that they can chose to stay around in the afterlife just to make sure their family is going to be just fine without their presence before they decided to move on, almost like an additional Karma goals that could be called "Guardian Zoi"; Calm a sick child in their sleep. Sit with a Zoi while they're crying/mourning. Give a Zoi a comforting hug after a bad moment.

I have always cherished the idea that death is just a beginning of a new chapter, it has helped me and my family mourn the pain of so much loss. That they get to continue another adventure be it looking over us, fighting off evil we cannot see, or venturing onto new worlds beyond our imaginations/dreams.

It might be best to have an option to allow ghosts or disallow them. Some people don't like any supernatural elements to their games, while others don't play without them. This is something I hope you will continue as you add other types of occult gameplay. Anyways, one of the disappointments I often have with ghosts in games like this is they don't really haunt your characters. If we can make a lot haunted, and have a lot of spooky stuff going on, I will love it. I also encourage your team to think creatively about the supernatural elements to include. I know others have gotten stuck on a regular pattern of vampires, werewolves, and magic users. But you come from a completely different culture than them. Use it to your advantage!

I love the idea that karma is tied to whether ZOI remains as a ghost in the world or not. As I mentioned, this gives substance to this mechanic! I would also appreciate it if ghost appearances were occasional and chaotic, as it would make the gameplay more interesting. Maybe the ghost could ask our ZOI to fulfill a favor they couldn't complete in life, depending on our relationship with them.

Now, this is a suggestion regarding the possibility of supernatural elements in the game: personally, I don't like playing with supernatural beings in another life simulation game. However, I would love for urban legends and folklore to be added to each city in the future, along with locations historically known for supernatural events. Through NPCs, we could discover these stories—for example, tales of abduction, colorful lights in the night sky, or sightings of mystical creatures.

I think this is a more realistic approach because folklore exists in every culture, and many cities have urban legends passed down from generation to generation. In RDR2, for instance, there are cave paintings that allude to extraterrestrial beings, environmental markings that suggest alien origins, and NPCs who swear they've seen something supernatural.

I love the idea of ​​knowing what happened to the Zoi who died. In my culture there are different types of ghosts, the family protectors who watch over them like guardian angels and the ghosts who are left with pending issues and don't leave until they are resolved and then there are the evil ghosts. If you were to add supernatural creatures like ghosts and vampires, taking away the realism, I would like it to be an option somewhere to add or remove them. I wouldn't like it to be like the Sims, something that I really like about Inzoi's idea is the realism.
And if there was an option in the character creation process like in the Sims, it would be obvious that this option could exist, but if not, it would be optional.

Not only thinking about interactions with living people, there's also the interactions with objects. If they could more than make them float and break them, that would be nice.

Like your house is being hunted by a ghost that dislike noise and won't let you use the vacuum cleaner when they're here because a ghost should be able to "rest in peace".
Or on contrary, a ghost that like your cat or dog too much and plays with them at night while you're trying to sleep.
Or ghosts shutting down electricity because your hairblower is too close to the bath, but welp fridge need electricity. Or trying to alert you when you're living to work that you forgot the gaz on in the kitchen, but you nose is in pain from the door hitting you. (Saw those one on an american TikTok account btw)

And ghosts with other ghosts.

UNFORTUNATELY apparently there will be no way to escape these nonsense, (probably these fanciful things are requested by sims players) so, at least one button to disable this option for those who want to play the most realistic game

I think the mischievous ghost or the spooky kind is preferable, unless your Zoi reaches out to them by consulting a professional... something or they do something themselves. It could be cute to still keep it as an option, however.

Psycat_Blush Thank you for sharing and for wanting to know our thoughts about ghosts in inZOI. Personally I like the idea and would be nice to have some kind of control in the city setting on when and how a ghost appear but I am also fan of surprises so there could be a setting like random events. Also, would be so AWESOME to have a short video showing some zoi ghosts and if they will have some kind of animations when they interact with other zois or with objects.

I think ghost can have different reasons for appearing and that some living zois, or places are more accessible for ghosts to appear. (I love the Karma system and points you said so stick with itt❤️) Please expand on the supernatural in the future!

❤️GRAVES: I think graves should be a place they easier appear at.

❤️HAUNTED PLACE: I also think they should appear more at places they haunt. Not all ghosts haunt but the ones that do always have a reson.

❤️PLACE OF DEATH: The same goes for the place they died.

❤️DARKNESS: Some ghosts can appear more at night or darker days to scare people if the ghost is still a "bad" zoi.

❤️DREAMS: Sometimes they could appear in dreams, good and bad. To warn, protect, threaten or comfort. Or maybe give one last goodbye or revange.

❤️MEDIUM: a medium or smth similar could help ghosts gain karma points, or to scare ghosts away from a haunted place.

❤️STARING: through windows or doors. Ghost staring at the zoi they hate or love.

It would be fun if ghost can get bad points to by doing bad stuff and therefore become more powerful and therefore being able to create more mischief like, pushing a living zoi.

My question is if the ghosts themselves are aware that they need to get good karma points, and if not do they figure it out by feeling "lighter" after doing a good deed Ang gaining good karma?

The emotional reunions with deceased loved ones isn’t something that has been explored yet in games such as The Sims, so would be nice to see it in inZOI ! ^^ thank you for all the hard work and super excited for this game!

I think that there should be a Ghost-slider added – So that everyone can find a setting that suits their game-style best – From the creepiest of atmospheres with really scary (and more chaotic) ghost-encounters to more subtle/sad (but peaceful) settings on the other side. Also important: Maybe just some Zois can see ghosts? If they have a “sixth sense” of some sort? That would make it easier for players that do want to keep their game ultra-realistic to have less supernatural features – while other players that love these kind of elements could give all their Zois the psychic ability/trait.

Or the new boss needing advices on the business and their ancestor doesn't want to hear about it anymore.

An idea by the way : what if sensibility to ghosts could be progressive for Zois without the Gift ? Like they need to be in the same place as ghosts for a long time or be surrounded by lots of them.

About the yes/no to ghosts :

There will be lots of contrary demand on this subject, so a option to allow/disallow is for sure to be there.
Those who dislike the idea ❌ and those who like ⭕ under this post will allow for numbers to be seen.

Maybe also frequency and quantity. It's more those one which'll need to be discussed.

I definitely love the idea of having a “haunted house” in the neighborhood where random/creepy events could happen.. and I would also love the opportunity to encounter the ghosts of deceased relatives and loved ones through specific gameplay.

I think it would be interesting to have the theme of the ghost connected to something in that zoi's life.

For instance, if a ghost zoi meets someone whom they were close with in real life, then it should be a tearful reunion, but maybe a scary or spooky reunion for someone they knew less well/a stranger.

How a zoi acts as a ghost should be connected to that zoi's personality in life. So, depending on what kind of personality traits the zoi had, they would be chaotic or mischievous as a ghost. Or maybe they would be benevolent or evil depending on their traits

In The Sims 3 each ghost had a spectral appearance depending on how they died, this could give the ghosts abilities, such as a burned Zoi becoming a pyromaniac, an electrocuted one becoming capable of altering electronic consumption or damaging appliances, a drowned person leaving puddles of water in their wake making the floor slippery (risk of falling) or dragging unwary bathers to the depths if they are in a body of water, if they died in a traffic accident they could appear to drivers as someone asking for a stop and by taking them cause you to have an accident, among others.

A scary thing that happened to me when I was little, was that I felt that someone was in my room, it's a bit complicated to explain but I felt uncomfortable and watched. Then all of a sudden the books on my shelf fell down at my table. (Remind you, They was on the highest shelf far in to the wall). It was creepy so I left them on the table for a while. When I finely go the courage to even think of putting them up again, more books fell down. I shouted "go away!" because I thought it was a ghost and after that, the weird feeling of being watched left me.

In addition to the ghosts, I think it would be really cool to a psychic skill zois could build so that they could learn to interact with ghosts more and more. And if they didn't have any psychic ability then they may be able to hear or feel ghosts on rare occasions , but not actually see them. As the psychic ability improved though, they would first be able to sense ghosts more often, then see them, then communicate with them, and then maybe at the top of the skill leave their bodies to interact with them like they would with a regular zoi

I'd love to see a job related to ghosts, like a medium who can help ghosts improve their karma so they can move on to the next life! And they could also help other Zois connect with their lost loved ones. It'd be funny as well if you could choose to be a phoney, scamming people with fake medium sessions (making your own karma worse and therefore increasing the chances you end up as a ghost yourself)

There's many types of gost and spirits and it would be nice to have a variety of them and not just the usual full-body apparition. However, that might be asking for too much, but i’d be interested in seeing animal ghosts as well, when they incorporate pets into the game. Additionally, it would be nice to have an option to turn off supernatural features for players who aren’t into that kind of stuff.

I'd love to see children being more likely to see ghosts due to their imagination (as adults would say) and reacting differently to their presence. Some might get scared, others... Not so much, they'd rather help or make friends.

That basically ties to my other idea - when switching to another zoi, we'd get to see the world from their perspective. So, while playing as a sceptical adult, we'd see something move occasionally, but when playing as a kid in a haunted house, we'd see a literal mischievous ghost pretending to be scary and struggling to lift objects in the air (unless they really do have supernatural abilities). Or glowing eyes under the bed when they think there's a 'monster' (when an adult zoi checks it, they disappear). Also, as animals are often said to be more sensitive, I'd like to see a dog barking at the ghost or hiding away (if the ghost is 'bad'), so from the perspective of an adult zoi, their dog is acting irrationally

That might not be everyone's cup of tea, but when an older related zoi dies (like a member of the family), a zoi closest to them could have a dream of them or have this zoi visit them as a ghost to sort of say goodbye. And yes, I'm speaking from the experience of my family. My mom dreamt of both of her parents when they died, she always senses something is 'wrong'. I think that could add more meaning to dreams

I have seen ghosts, but they are not scary. I once saw a cute little girl in a house during a thunderstorm, and she gestured to me like she was sleeping. I roughly knew what he meant. I have been afraid of thunder since I was a child, but because of him, I was really moved.😭

Hello, first of all I think it's a great idea and I would like to add that in this type of simulator games I think that as strange as it may sound, ghosts have never been seen as something scary or creepy or emotional, I think that would be very interesting, adding some terror and emotion would be something different and innovative.

I'd like to add that even though a player might buy a supernatural themed expansion pack, they might not want to play with it in every game they play. Keeping an optional setting to allow each individual occult is the best way to use it. I'd also like to add that the same should apply to celebrities and aliens, if you go down that path.

I love supernatural gameplay, so I'm super excited for this no matter how it turns out.

I think ghosts of your dead Zoi's could show up on your lot if you keep their headstone / urn on your property or in your inventory (if there is an inventory system). They could show up at night and walk through walls and furniture. With the karma system in mind, maybe Zoi's with negative karma or mean traits could possess items in your household and make them break, steal things, or scare your living Zoi's so bad they go fleeing or pee their pants, and if their needs are too low, they could die from it. On the other hand, Zoi's with good karma and more friendly traits could reunite with their friends, family, or pets, and have some small but sweet interactions like saying goodbye for the final time, or reassuring them that they'll be okay while they're gone. Also, maybe ghost Zoi's could visit their job if they were still working when they died? Could add a feature where Zoi's can gossip with their coworkers about the office being haunted or something.

I was also thinking ghosts could get upset if you deleted an object they liked while alive, or if their significant other moves on quickly, or if their best friend gets a new best friend, etc, etc. Either way, I don't really want to be able to add a dead Zoi to my household to play as a ghost, but it'd be cool if there was some secret or difficult way to bring them back to life, especially if they died by accident or unexpectedly. 😊👍

On the topic of ghosts, would the team add graveyards to the worlds so living Zoi's could visit their friends and loved ones? I'd love to build and decorate my own.

Adding onto what others were saying regarding ghost types, I'd like to also see some benevolent innocent spirits, who help in the house or play with the children. Or perhaps a mischievous ghost, who otherwise appears "bad", befriending a kid and behaving protectively around it? Or even comforting it when it's sad? Imagine a grandmother ghost appearing to soothe a crying baby at night hah They might have gentle, subtle and comforting roles. Ghosts could also evolve over time - if they're treated with kindness and accepted, they could become friendly to the house inhabitants or have their favourites (usually kids). If they're regarded with anger or fear, they might become more disruptive

Wonderful ideas! Your idea about seeing the world from the perspective of the zoi your playing is spot on, I'm not a huge fan of the "silly ghost" like in the sims but I would love to switch to a child zoi or a clairvoyant zoi and see the world come alive in a different way, for eg. More vivid colors, seeing ghost interact with each other, more lighting effects. As for playing as a ghost, I'd love it if the ghost zois can only interact with other ghost or zois that have the ability to see them. That way the dimensions are kind of kept separated. Also, the ghost world could be slightly different from the real world like a boring bar in the real world would be snazzy jazz place in the ghost world, or the graveyard in the ghost world could be like a ghost train station or something. I'm getting carried away but yeah, lol.

I think it would be cool if the ghosts only appeared for the zoi who did something supernatural, like summoning them and things like that, this would prevent the game from becoming... strange... like another simulation game where ghosts become something boring and common as they appear in the characters' houses all the time.

It would be immersive if more spiritual ZOIs encountered the ghost more or were able to connect with the ghost emotionally. For example, when they remembered the deceased ZOI, they were comforted and recalled fun memories. I am also thinking of a system where a spiritual ZOI can conduct rituals to assist the deceased in passing on to the afterlife, which also impacts how they grieve. They can visit a shrine when they miss them, etc., and it boosts their mood... like they feel empowered or inspired through reverence.

When you speak of rituals, it's a form of witchcraft. It would mean also incorporing witches and wizards, taking in account that ancestral magic is a thing. At least in fiction.

Honestly, I think all those kinds of encounters would be awesome if they could be tied to the lives the zois lived. So zois who lives a life of crime and evil will be the creepy ghosts, ghosts who cared about their families and passed away before their time would want to reuniting with their families, and the chaotic ghosts are the ones who loved pulling pranks as a living zoi

What about certain events tied to the dead leading to more encounters with spirits? Like All Hallow’s Eve or simply Halloween. There could be thick fog (and/or a thunderstorm) to show that the veil is thin that night - it's the best time to try to communicate with deceased loved ones.

Perhaps some zois would attract ghosts more, not only based on their clairvoyant abilities or beliefs, but also emotions - a lonely or grieving character might attract a comforting ghost, a furious character might summon aggressive spirits (i suppose it could be tied to karma).

If we were to consider more scary encounters, I'd love to see different types of possessions - a radio might change the music to something eerie, curtains might sway on non-existent wind, there could be subtle creaks, doors opening on their own, flickering lights, piano playing itself, TV screen getting distorted or even hearing faint children giggles and their quick footsteps when the zois have no children (ok, i should stop by now) or even our character might get possessed and out of control (or 'channel' a ghost for a brief period), affecting their interactions with others (like attacking a zoi who had done this particular ghost harm). I'm definitely getting carried away

Please, I hope to see ghosts that are ACTUALLY scary. I don't think you guys would go this far, but something like indie horror almost? I know it can't be gory or anything like that, but something that can be chilling or eerie? I'd especially LOVE if (for High School game play) we can get occult clubs that investigate ghosts! Like around the school there could be a few urban legends like toilet bound hanako or the extra step on the stairs case and stuff like that (but probably unique to Inzoi). It would also be fun if we could help these ghosts resolve their Karma to pass on.

I like the idea of properties with ghost Zois being cheaper, maybe ghosts can break things and make living difficult for other Zois on the lot, to incentivize the player to get the ghost Zoi’s karma up.

I’m curious if you could also use the Smart Zoi system to have ghost Zois repeat certain routines that were recorded during their time alive. Maybe they also long to be reunited with a long gone lover who DID get enough karma points, and can be seen and heard crying or longing for love? I could see potential quests being added to prevent a ghost from being so disruptive until they’ve met the necessary karma points to leave.

I'm kind of curious as to how restoring Karma to a ghost works. Do you have to be kind towards the ghost? But what if the ghost had been such a jerk in life that they only have enemies?

Also I think it should tie into the meta-narrative of AR Company somehow. If your job is to raise Zoi with high Karma, what happens if you keep raising ghosts instead? What even is the afterlife for a Zoi when they're basically living on a 3D tablet on your desk?

I hope the ghost are mostly scary and that zois who have seen a ghost is not just going to be "fine" seeing ghost if they're not really used to it. But I also want some ghosts that are more kinder and gaurd zois, and have a hard time letting go. I I also want zois not to immediately "know" it's a ghost just of they saw some kitchenware move a bit. Believers in the supernatural are more likely to think it's a ghost. ❤️

I believe there is no option, the requests from The Sims 4 players won, I just ask you Kjun, for us players who like something more realistic, that you put an option so that we can disable these fantasies, for us players who don't like fairies and werewolves among others in our gameplay. So what to do with a Negative Karma ghost? I see three main ways to deal with that.

  1. Redemption. You somehow raise the ghost's Karma to a positive number. Doing so is the cleanest way to deal with a ghost as they can progress to the normal afterlife, just with a very low, but positive score.

  2. Reincarnation. The ghost is reborn. Keeping its low Karma score from its previous life, the Zoi gets a second chance at life as someone else, and hopefully this time they'll earn enough Karma to get into the afterlife. They'll get some bonuses, like skills or a boost to Karma gain, good and bad, for their second chance.

  3. Banishment. You banish the ghost from your game. But doing so should cost a player resource or incur a world penalty. Like the negative Karma gets doubled and distributed to everyone. But if you need town space right now, it should be an option.

If you choose to Banish a ghost, it would be fun if they could be reborn as NPCs in other peoples' games. Maybe even give you a notification if they get into the afterlife in someone else's game.

As an aside, I have a terrible hunch what the inZOI afterlife might be. Where do game characters, like Zoi, go when their game is over? They go on the high score table. And with Karma being a number, there could literally be one of those for Zoi that pass into the afterlife.

I think it's kinda unfair to put ghosts/spirits on the same level as fairies and werewolves, since spirits are an active part of real life Korean culture as opposed to fairies and werewolves. Shouldn't just dismiss it as fantasy just because it's an unfamiliar culture to you.

Hum... Isn't the ghost Zoi supposed to raise their own karma ? Did I miss something ? Because it means the ghost Zoi must be the one acting nice. It's not our Zoi being nice to them.

And since this ghost Zoi became a ghost from "bad" karma, we can guess they'll have difficulties being nice to others. So you'll have to teach them that making others happy can make them happy too.

It's not a little work, I tell you.

They might even have traits your Zoi will dislike : egotistical, superficial, compulsive liar, no care for the environnement, conceited or others.

While I'm definitely a player who typically doesn't engage with supernatural elements, I think a creepier approach would be welcome. One where it's pretty rare to see one but when you do, it gives you chills and you legitimately wonder if you're seeing things. How that would work in actuality, I'm not sure. I also think an on off switch in the settings would be nice since the player base tends to be evenly divided whether they like the supernatural elements or not.

For me, this already implies that ghosts are the remains of "bad" people also implying contact with ghosts might rather be a negative experience than a positive. To be honest I'd not be very happy with a system where ghosts would be restricted to Zois with low karma as I think if ghosts would exist there might be "bad" as well as "good" ghosts - e.g. people that got stucked as ghosts because of grudge but could also be a good person that might just have died by an acciedent but was too young or simply not "ready" to leave the world (e.g. because it refuses to leave their loved ones alone or missed to fullfill a dream)

Having good and bad ghosts would make interactions with them much more interesting as - concerning the karma - they behave different, doing good or bad deeds and if you didn't know the Zoi that died by chance you wouldn't know if you can trust a ghost or shall be scared, you have to figure out first or be careful when interacting with them.

E.g. good ghosts could help or leave small gifts for you when you behave friendly. When you react scared and treat them like a threat, they could be rather sad and desperate than angry giving your zoi some guilty conscience. Bad ghost on the other hand could tend to do more evil deeds like breaking things, intentionally scaring the living and react rather agressive / even dangerous.

Maybe every Ghost could have a hidden simple "quest" depending on their karma that living Zois can figure out by getting to know them (or perform rituals , whatever). If you acheive the quest they can move on to the afterlife and the zoi gets a small reward. Quest example (good) "Find the spouse of ghost xy and write a farewell letter in xy's name" and so on.

Bad ghosts (low karma) may have grudges or unresolved hatred, leading them to haunt specific people or locations -> creepy atmosphere, destructive

Neutral ghosts could be tied to places or unfinished business, lingering due to personal reasons rather than morality -> may be chaotic and mischievous (like children ghosts), or sad, can act like a good or a bad ghost depending on how they're treated

Good ghosts (high karma) wouldn’t be stuck in the world but could return on special nights, visiting graveyards or loved ones briefly (ex. when in distress) -> heartfelt moments, helpful

Out of the options, I would like the emotional and chaotic options. I’d prefer for ghosts to be something you more so have to seek out than something that can randomly happen.

Something I think would be cool is maybe if a close zoi dies, there’s an option to have them act as sort of a spirit guide to your zoi, where you might see them pop up here and there and your zoi could get a feeling of comfort knowing they’re still around and looking after them.

Death is a very important subject for the living, which is why ghosts should definitely be implemented.

I think some “spooky” ghosts should remain attached to particular houses, and others should appear randomly in cemeteries.
The rate at which ghosts appear could be set via the town options, so that everyone can dose it as they want.
In this way, we could separate the city's “wandering”/easter egg ghosts, with those that have more impact and are linked to families.

We could also have an option to send our family ghost to an "other world" for those who don't want ghost and unfinished business gameplay

As for the other occults, personally, I'd love to be able to play as a fairy, witch, mermaid etc... even if, in order for the occult to blend better with the contemporary aspect of the game, it's rewritten in a mordern way.
For example: a witch who runs a pharmacy / herbalist's shop and makes her own potions. A fairy who is a doctor and can try to cure people with her magic etc..

I get the impression that, since most of us are already used to paying for DLC like in The Sims, we'd happily buy a gameplay pack to add more content to the game ; as long as the pack is worth its price, there's no reason to grumble and people who don't want to play with the gameplay the pack brings won't have to worry

This is SO COOL!! As a huge fan of horror and supernatural things, I actually really like the idea of it being spooky but at the same time for some story purposes, it would be fun to have them be mischievous. I still think it would be cool to have some kind of emotional reaction from the living regarding the deceased, but since it is a matter of them not passing on due to karama or unfinished business (which I absolutely LOVE by the way), it makes sense that they may not be the most friendly. Honestly, how ever you choose to integrate them, I fully support and look forward to it! 👻❤️

I think a good choice would to make ghosts scary sometimes like let’s a Zoi dies and idk… hasn’t done any of the things he wanted to in life or maybe his life was full of bad things happening; I feel like he should return as an evil ghost and torment those who live in his house/apartment but of course not to extent of making the experience full blown horror but enough to make him unsettling maybe your Zoi is checking herself in the mirror on a rainy night and blam! The ghost is right behind her and scares or something.

I would really like to see realistic hauntings, no green figures floating around like Sims 😓 but let them be invisible

I'd want unexpected sightings, but spirits wouldn't be a common occurance. Maybe if unsettled goals the character didn't get to achieve or something tragic happened, such as they died by fire. Would cause them to linger the earth longer.

I'd like to see doors opening and closing on their own, including objects being moved around, lights flickering on/off. Hearing faint whispers at night.

Former homes could be haunted when your characters move in, some spirits could cause such disturbance they could scare homeowners away. Property could be known in reputation for being badly haunted.

Characters could have the gift of sensing spirits around. They could feel cold, feel 'off', anxious suddenly, or restless. I'd like if pets could sense them too and growl or hide in fear.

Opportunity to communicate with spirits using oujia boards or hosting seances. There could be negative or positive consequences for this too.

Idk if the dev team is willing to explore these themes, but both docile and mean spirits. Some could be harmless and you'd see doors opening and closing. While the mean ones could throw objects, scream, and say things like 'GET OUT'.

As for physical appearance there could be random figures of something be hazy/blurred like it looks like a person but not sure.

Suprise jump scares while playing 3rd pov in direct control mode would be so cool! Something passes in front of our character in the daylight or even at night. Would give an edge to the game and make us forget it's there, or be in anticipation for to happen again.

Haunted objects would be a nice addition be it an heirloom or antiques. There could be a history of why it's haunted.

Activities or careers: Ghost tours in town, paranormal activity jobs that can tie in with historic journalism or just journalism to find out a haunted locations history, having public lots be haunted in town abandoned or occupied.

Lol I realize my ideas of spirits are more scary and realistic. But I feel most representations have been humorous or too fantasy like :/ and I'd like to see a different approach is all.

It would be great for zois to be able to have some emotional connection to the ghosts and special interactions aswell such as a brief possession or a cold chill or some form of positive/negative moodlet when communicating with them too! As people have said above- having the ghosts be mischievous would also be a great addition 👌🏼

As far as ghosts go… some ideas/thoughts below:

👻 Have an option in game settings to disable ghosts for players that feel uncomfortable with this subject (emotional, religious, etc reasons)

👻 Have ghosts' interactions be influenced by the kind of person they were when alive. (ex. playful/funny zois would become funny ghosts that play friendly tricks on zois while mean/angry zois would become dangerous/scary ghosts)

👻 Zois (depending on their level of courage) can die from fright upon seeing a ghost or go into shock

👻 Children and pets are more likely to see ghosts

👻 Add a graveyard or some kind of location where zois can visit their loved ones that have passed (leave flowers, grieve, etc)

👻 Have a day where zois can reunite with passed loved ones (introduce new family members)

👻 Can we get a new game feature where we can solve a ghost’s grief or wrong doing in an effort to help them move on? It can be a mystery that we have to solve.

👻 If your zoi purchases a house where another zoi had died in, there can be a chance that their ghost remains in that house and your zoi has to help them move on.

👻 Even if your zoi can’t see a ghost, if that ghost is nearby, your zoi can have an effect such as “cold shivers” or “hair standing on end”.

👻 If your zoi is walking home at night, they can randomly be chased by a ghost if they pass the graveyard at midnight or 2am/3am (depending on that ghost’s personality/traits when they were alive)

👻 Ghosts can interact with other ghosts and keep each other company

👻 I would greatly prefer animals cannot become ghosts as they cannot have bad karma (all animals are good).

An idea and I'm not sure if it's already been mentioned, putting ghosts on a slider like the animals in the wild or how clean or dirty your city is. That way if you want to really amp up the ghosts you can, if you don't want any you can do that too or if you want some. I know that not everyone likes to play with supernatural elements in their games and then you have those who love it! That way everyone is happy. Just a thought I figured I would throw out.

I'd love to have a bit of a horror element implemented with ghosts, but I also think that whether the situation is creepy, emotional, chaotic, etc. should focus on how that ghost acted in life, and if they have a relationship with the living zoi, what kind of relationship they had.

If you have a mother that was a horrible person, a creepy atmosphere would be more fitting than if you have a mother that was loving and kind, and perhaps regrets not being able to see her children grow up.

Perhaps certain ghosts would also target certain zois, like an obsession.

I would mostly like : 1️⃣A creepy atmosphere where you don't know when or where a ghost might suddenly appear. 2️⃣ Emotional reunions with deceased loved ones in heartfelt, tearful moments.

Could be in dreams, during a breakup, in a dark forest, old house and graveyard, when cherishing an object from a loved lost one. I want the devs to keep the karma system in death, so that the only zois that turn into ghosts are bad karma. BUT it would be fun if some dead zois with good karma refuse to leave because they need to "protect" or want to stay with a loved on, turns into a ghosts. Like, they have an unfinished raskt to do, maybe a hidden quest.

This is actually pretty close to what I was hoping to see with ghosts in a life sim. I like the idea of some characters moving on and others remaining as ghosts based on how they lived their life or if anything happened that caused them to have unfinished business.

I think it would be interesting to have a variety of ghosts. More friendly "human" ghosts that you can interact with but I also think some more "grudge"-like obscure weird looking kinds of ghosts would also be a lot of fun. There's a lot of room with ghosts to go beyond just "transparent human floating around".

As for the atmosphere I'd prefer a creepy atmosphere for ghosts. I'd like it to feel sort of unpredictable.

I think maybe it could be interesting if you had to do obscure things before you could interact peacefully with a ghost. I like it in games or stories where the way to appease a ghost isn't always straightforward or makes logical sense.

Also while we're on the subject of ghosts, I'd love to see it be possible to have mediums or zois with higher spiritual power who could see and interact with ghosts more easily.

Also! I think it would be cool if there was some sort of "witching hour" (not sure how else to put it) that made ghosts and supernatural occurences more common. Maybe during these times ghosts powers would be heightened and their activity level increased.

On the topic of supernaturals in general, I'd like to see some kind of "masquerade" in effect. Zois shouldn't all just believe supernaturals exist or have no response to seeing them, they should have a proper response to learning about their existence. Maybe zois could have some kind of willful ignorance level where they try to explain things they don't understand through other "logical" means but when it goes over a certain point it gets destroyed and they have to accept that supernaturals are real.

i would like to have ghosts be disabled if possible. direct comparison is the sims; i don't like ghosts in the sims, i don't engage with them ever because i think they're boring, and i kinda don't want to be forced to engage with ghosts.

i however would like werewolves, i've always enjoyed werewolves comparatively more than the other spooky fantasy creatures out there (even though that's a different conversation and reasonably i shouldn't expect werewolves in the inZoi setting, but i'd personally like it 😊)

I'd love to see vengeful ghosts that dedicates their afterlife haunting the Zois they hated or felt wronged by. 👻

  • The ghost's spouse cheated or treated them badly, bullies the ghost encountered during school/work that made their life miserable, those Zois are haunted until they make amends (And if the Zoi you control is mean to another Zoi, and that Zoi passes away... they could choose to haunt you 😝).
  • The ghost is purely evil and wants to cause chaos by haunting a specific location (schools, homes, hospitals etc) or a cursed object (music box, a clock, dolls) Zois can buy/sell at flea markets, it might require an exorcism or a mediums to speak with the ghost. 🔮

There can be activities surrounding ghosts to make their presence more unique! (not just a colorful transparent floating Zoi that casually sits at your table to eat cereal please 🤡 )

  • Zois who enter haunted locations 'unprotected' (Zois could purchase charms sold by mediums, or practice to strengthen their spiritual beliefs) can get followed home by ghosts... or even cursed (bad luck, weird marks on the body when they wake up etc). 👀
  • Zois can go Ghost Hunting as an activity! capture paranormal photos, 'live stream' ghost hunting adventures (like those movies where main characters go 'ghost hunting' but it's actually staged... but turns out to be real haha) to make money.

It would be rewarding to have special interactions with ghosts to generate positive karma for your Zois 😇

  • Zois being able to help ghosts find peace by solving the mysteries surrounding their death (whether by a civilian Zoi or even a detective!?). ✨
  • Imagine if your Zoi meets another seemingly normal Zoi at an abandoned building and become friends/fall in love... and they turned out to be a ghost! so you try to find a way to bring them back to life bongocatlove

In the end of the end I would prefer if ghosts weren't everywhere and too easily spotted to reflect a 'life simulation'. As with real life, individuals who believe in the paranormal are more susceptible towards supernatural phenomenons, whereas those who are more skeptical tend to not associated mysteries with the paranormal 🔎

It would be nice if players can toggle the 'Paranormal Level' to create unique game plays and have control over how many ghosts they encounter on the regular basis.
Wouldn't it be funny for a skeptical Zoi to live in a world that is highly paranormal 🤭

The plan you have for ghosts has me more excited for the game. I believe in ghosts. I love this!! Just one suggestion I have which is to give us the options to choose if we always want our zoi’s to become playable ghosts after death regardless of their karma. Maybe something we can adjust in options. I just love playing with ghosts in the sims and I just know inzoi ghosts will be top tier

I could honestly see this going in many ways, some more serious and creepy or emotional (eg. the living can help the dead resolve their karmic issues or make amends to fast track the dead into the afterlife through a dynamic storyline or something), or something more comedic (eg. a person who did bad in life and wants to move on, but is so bad at doing good their karma just goes deeper in the hole with each thing they try in some comedic way). There is a lot open to this kind of feature that could make for interesting and engaging mechanics. Not sure how much you'd be able to implement, but it would be fun to see several options of storyline progressions depending on the life the Zois led in life.

Unpopular opinion but I don't like playing with a occult and I never have played as a ghost or have a desire to. I'm not adverse to there being expansion packs that add them but most expansion packs come with more than just the new occult. There are build/buy objects and clothing or hairs that are locked behind those packs as well. Saying if you don't want to play with vampires, witches, werewolves, etc, then just don't buy the pack is problematic. I like having new hairs, clothes, and objects and don't want to be limited because I didn't buy a pack, especially if the pack is $40 or more. This is just a concern I have. I'm hoping that they add a toggle for the ghost and other paranormal critters so that people can use them if they want to.

Supernatural is more hard to make then hair mods and so on, because it's a whole change of gameplay. I get not wanting to have to buy an explanation for one hair or a furniture. But I bet there will be many great modders that can create! And, more easily as hair, clothes and furniture is already changeble. I think enabling opportunists instead of restrictions are important.❤️

An idea to the devs is that they could make "small purchases" available, which is that you can buy only furniture, hair and so on in a pack without the gameplay.❤️

i would love to have ghosts in the game but i feel it would need a lot of settings for people to control how they effect their game. so that people who want no supernatural aspects don’t have to deal with it and the people who do can adjust it to their play style. definitely a lot of potential for cool moments with ghosts especially considering the karma system. i think i’m most excited to see my zoi reunite with their deceased loved ones. it could be very emotional both good and bad lol

I love this idea, and Kjun sir, to answer the question about which encounters to have and the suggestions you gave, I feel that all three will be great as things a ghost will do. (Creepy, emotional reunion, chaotic and mischevious) It encompasses pretty much all the basic areas of things a ghost might do.
And I agree about not overshadowing the main gameplay, while still making it intriguing and fun.
If I could please suggest, as others I’m sure have, to make the appearance of ghosts and their presence in your inzoi world adjustable,
~For those players who would like to play in a realistic world without disruption of supernatural things in their zois normal life.
~And for other players that enjoy more supernatural aspects of a game, who can turn the settings higher and even at max, so they can enjoy these elements according to their preference.
How gameplay/mechanics could work:
• You can click on an icon to view an “in memory of” screen, naming deceased ghosts. It will separate the names(with picture), into two tabs, those who have moved on, and those who haven’t (an idea, ‘Paradise’ and ‘Present’). Under the ‘Present’ tab, you can click on a Zoi who hasn’t moved on, and see what they need to do go gain enough good karma points to move on. Once the player helps them accomplish this, their name will move to the ‘Paradise’ tab.
•When you click on a Zoi in the ‘Present’ tab, (haven’t moved on) it will bring you to where they are currently in the world, and when you click on the ‘Paradise’ tab, it will denote under names who is ‘home’ and who is ‘visiting’. If you click on someone visiting, it will take you to where they are.
• And the actual visibility and frequency of these ghosts appearing during regular gameplay, will be determined by the ‘supernatural’ setting. And if set to zero, then no ghosts can appear during regular gameplay.

And even if like the supernatural, I'm perfectly okay with others disliking it. Them disliking it isn't them disliking me or judging me. It's not the same, we need to be caredul there.

People have the right to express themselves and like whatever they want as long as they're being respectful of others. And they have the right to be respected in return.

To go back to the subject, the idea of a being feigning to be a ghost looks more like magical abilities to me than something else. And the notion of ghosts can be more generic like spirits.

I think use should more concentrate on making the school and hospital not a rabbit hole for more gameplay!and carreers instead i would be much happier then the ghosts to be honest maybe just keep the ghost as optional or if your zoi dies and you dont give them a funeral they will come back to scare you until you put them to peace with a funeral!

I don't think I care much about too much focus on ghosts but I guess it would be interesting to have visitations from loved ones, but also a option not to. Also depending on how a Zoi lived their life either going to a good place or bad place would be interesting. I do believe in a afterlife for sure, but I'm not sure what depth you would go into that. I think it should be optional if we want to deal with ghosts or want hauntings or being able to talk to a loved one if they passed on. It depends on the story we are telling.

After sleeping on it, a new idea popped in my mind: why not add reincarnation? Ghosts can choose to move into the afterlife or they can choose to reincarnate. When they choose the latter, they'll be able to pick a pregnant zoi and stick by then until the baby is born, which is when they'll finally reincarnate. Reincarnated children will sometimes be able to recount memories from their past lives and talk about them but will forget about it upon aging up to kids (because in real life instances of reincarnation, children forget their past life by the age of 3). Upon growing up, those kids might discover they have a knack for interacting with ghosts and become a medium. Each reincarnation makes their medium abilities more poweful, unblocking more ghost interactions. Especially powerful mediums could even befriend ghosts and help them move on

Something about karma allowing more freedom in chosing where to reincarnate and knowledge about families like their traits.

But if they do that, it won't be before a long long time. Their work list must be longer that our list to Santa when we were children.

Personally, I don't always like playing games with supernatural characters, I would like to be able to have the choice of whether or not to include fantastic characters, even ghosts. Especially since in The Sims they were quite annoying.
Sometimes I like playing with supernatural creatures but being able to choose would be nice.
Otherwise regarding your questions, I find that all the ideas proposed are good: reunions of deceased people, that the ghosts who do not have "good karma" remain, perhaps the "good" ghosts can visit the living Zoi like for Halloween or Día de Muertos. Or call them with a Ouija board. Maybe do it like in reality and some Zoi have something extra that allows them to see spirits more easily than other Zoi who will have to train more for example?

Personally, I don’t like playing as supernatural beings, and I really hope the game will always prioritize realism and life simulation. It would be disappointing if it took a turn toward mysticism like The Sims did.

For example, many people ask for zombies, but I honestly have no idea how they could be added without making the game feel strange. If zombies are introduced, then logically, weapons would have to be added as well, which would completely change the game—raising the rating to 16–18, introducing violence and killings. Zombies aren’t just “green-skinned people” who go to work and chat with neighbors like in The Sims. They’re creatures that hunt humans, and fighting them without weapons doesn’t make sense.

The same goes for vampires, werewolves, and fairies. In The Sims, they seem harmless—vampires drink blood, but no one actually dies, werewolves just get angry without tearing anyone apart, and fairies are simply glowing humans with wings. But in a more realistic game, they wouldn’t fit in so easily. Vampires should have to hide from the sun, hunt their victims, and actually be dangerous instead of just “biting and letting go.” Werewolves aren’t just people with ears; they’re predators who lose control during a full moon. If done realistically, they would turn the game into a horror experience rather than a life simulator.

So if anything supernatural is ever added, it should be entirely optional and something players can completely disable. But ideally, the game would be better off without it at all.

I'm not saying that they don't make paranormal packs. I just don't want a world overran with ghost or being forced into ghost gameplay because my zoi had "unfinished business". I'm a generational player and that could really bog down my game the way I play it. I'm just asking for a toggle to either lessen or eliminate randomly occuring paranormal zoi so that I'm not overwhelmed. I always send my sims ghost away to the netherworld and never play using the paranormal sims. It will also depend on autonomous behavior or the paranormals too. Sims has allowed for me to play and overall they don't affect my gameplay. I also don't mind paying for a pack if it includes more gameplay objects, hairs, or clothes just depending on what is in there (I do this currently the sims). I iust want the paranormal aspect to be optional gameplay that I can toggle on or off depending on the storyline I'm playing in that save. The devs don't need to micro-transaction us to bits and pieces either. While I see your point, not everyone is a mods and CC type of player. Considering the amount of customization that this game has for the city (like controlling the amount of wildlife in the game), I'm sure it's not a far reach to be able to toggle paranormal activity.

Just reiterating a lot of people’s points, I truly hope that this is an optional feature that can be toggled off/on. With sims 4 and such, stuff like this is nearly completely unavoidable without mods, especially if you want other features of packs like build/buy and CAS.

It would be very nice to have the option to leave that stuff completely out of saves for those who want to focus on the living and not the dead or who are uncomfortable with the idea of ghosts haunting around, especially if they’re taking a more “realistic” and chilling approach to it.

Furthermore, I remember someone mentioning that if a certain amount of Zoi die with bad karma and cannot move on, the capacity runs out to hold them, and you have to play as them to help them get their karma back up before they can move on and you can continue with more Zoi.

I personally do not what to have to do that. We should have the option of playing with Zoi however we wish to and be as chaotic as we want without having to worry about a capacity filling up because of it.

I know that the point is to play as a “god” and help Zoi live good lives with have good karma, but what if we want to do the opposite for the fun of chaos? What if we want to be a “god” who creates a chaotic world that crashes and burns? I hope this is not a restricted option because of the AR library feature.

Omg imagine falling in love with a Zoi not realizing they're already dead? And then bit by bit you get these hints telling you about their back story until finally they reveal they true ghostly form. Maybe scattered with blood or sunken eyes and pale or other signs showing how they actually died.

Scary things ghosts could do: push Zois down stairs, cause car accidents, hide in closets to scare children or under beds, move objects around, mess with electric items like TVs or radios. Curse Zois with bad luck etc.

You might have to call for a shaman or exorcist to get rid of the ghosts. And it works well since there is already a kind of medium/fortune teller in terms game.

Zombies, for example, can be explained in a way that makes them genuinely believable, or they can be portrayed in a cartoony, exaggerated manner. More specifically, I was talking about how the level of seriousness affects the perception of even fictional creatures.

I like the idea of set conditions. Maybe even something like, if you go to see a medium, if a zoi follows an occult and has set criteria met. I'm not as into ghosts randomly appearing as much as a goal type feel for them too. Also if a zoi has low enough karma maybe then they see ghosts because they're being haunted for being a bad zoi.

So, there is something I’m curious about the topic relating to ghosts. While in Korean folklore, ghosts that remain in the world being due to unresolved grudges… Will that be a thing unique to only Dowon, or will this also apply to other places such as Bliss Bay and (If this place is coming in Early Access) Cahaya? dracThink I’m not sure if I’ve seen this discussed before, but I feel like the folklore of ghosts being unique to the part of the world you choose to play in would be a nice taste for those curious about different parts of the world.

(Well, if the user decides to enable them that is. Having a slider to include ghosts might be an ideal idea if people dislike them.)

That’s just me, it’d be super unique to see how different ghosts would behave depending on where your Zoi moves into, and seeing as how so many of the Americans and other people of their respective countries, have many multiple views on their own folklore of ghosts. dracHuh

I'm probably in the minority for this, but I'd rather Inzoi was more grounded compared to The Sims.

I'm not fully on board with the meta-narrative of being a worker for some weird cat company that handles fate and magical elevators and whatever (I am on board with my boss being the twinkiest man who ever lived, even if he talks like he just learned how words do) but I can roll with it if it means playing a life sim with actual freaking simulation mechanics (something The Sims has been missing for a decade).

So I'd rather resources were pushed for things that make the world of the living even better.

This is going to sound pretty morbid but if a ghost has an obsession (I forgot to mention, but maybe we can give ghosts individual obsessions. Obsessions that very from places (like a particular room in a house), foods (ghosts like to eat this particular food and only thst will help to pacify them), objects (like a ghost child and their stuffed toy), or even... people. What if a ghost has an obsession with a particular person and wants to drag them with them into the afterlife? This could be the ghost's wish that needs to be satisfied in order to move on. And then we can choose to sacrifice the person to the ghost, have the person willing want to go, or find a shaman to forcefully remove the ghost. Also, this could introduce consequences for poor meddling with Spirits.

For example, if you're a noob or a hack Shaman, instead of exorcing the ghost, you get the bad ending where the person gets taken to the after life. This would make for interesting gameplay for Zois who can't move on from a love even after death and for the shaman/exorcist/medium career of different rankings. And each skill level of Shaman comes with different prices. Like Noobs can be cheap and hacks can be expensive (scammers who screw u over) and the real deal also being a good price. Also, consequences for noob shamans (they might receive some form of backlash like having the ghost turn on them to curse, possess, or haunt them).

I was just thinking about this too, but figured I'd bring it up when we got to the Magic occults like Witches. So I'm glad you mentioned it. I'd really like to see a more eastern take on the magic system like we see in xianxia novels instead of the tired Harry Potter ripoff we get over and over with the Sims. Not that I don't think we can't have magic academies too, but I'd definitely like to see more exploration into the genre than just that. It's also why I'm glad the developers are Korean so we aren't just getting a Western (especially American) worldview.

I think that ghost zois could change the atmosphere suddenly, they could come back to see the ones they love, haunt houses or apartments and even stores and their reputation would drop and few people would go shopping there, ghosts could get together to talk, they could scare other zois and they could die of fright or go into shock.

Here are some of the ghost-related features we’ve decided to implement as we continue development on it beyond Early Access. Some of these might even make it in before our Early Access launch!

  • Ghost Appearance Rate Slider: This setting lets you control how often ghosts appear in your game. At the lowest setting, ghosts won’t appear at all. At the highest, your city will quickly become filled with ghosts, making it more challenging to help each one earn enough karma points to move on to the afterlife.
  • More Creepy Than Goofy: We’ll be working towards making ghosts more eerie and startling. Even as the player, you might find yourself jumping when you encounter one unexpectedly!
  • Lingering Fear: If a living Zoi unexpectedly encounters a ghost, they may be so frightened that their status shifts into a negative state for a while.
  • Emotional Reunions: Not all ghost encounters will be scary! Some Zois may have unexpected reunions with close friends or family members who have passed, creating dramatic and emotional moments.
  • Ghost Experts: We’re considering adding a job (one of you mentioned clairvoyants) that will make a Zoi much more sensitive to the presence of ghosts.
  • People Don't Really Change: We will be working to have a Zoi’s traits when they're alive carry over to when they become a ghost. A calm and unobtrusive Zoi who just fell short of enough karma points might become a mild-mannered ghost who just goes about their day, while a bully Zoi will likely become a troublemaking spirit, scaring everyone in sight.
  • Special Tasks for Ghosts: For those who want to explore ghost mechanics further, we’ll be working on unique tasks that only ghosts can complete.
  • Cultural Influences on Ghosts: We’re looking to incorporate elements of Korean folklore into how ghosts in Dowon will behave to add greater variety.

I am very curious about Korean folklore because Taiwan also has some folklore. For example, if you couldn't point your finger at the moon while looking at it, your ears would be cut off. But it’s great to be included in inZOI! I also want to consider becoming a ghost expert!

In my opinion, if by chance a zoi dies in a store, that place could become haunted and the reputation of the lot could fall and thus few people could go shopping there, I think it would be funny for an owner to have to "fight" to prove that the place is a good store because ghosts would haunt there and many would give up going there out of fear. The store owner might have to convince customers to go there and for his stores to have customers again.

Have a slider for each zoi in how little or how much they believe in ghosts, feks a zoi that doesnt believe in ghost, would get extremely scared . A zoi that Truly believe in ghost, will not get as easily startled

It would be a normal shop or restaurant at the base, but products for ghosts would be allowed.
And since they can't pay with money, they give informations in exchange. And the player use those informations to make money or for other purposes.

Have the choice of the zoi is getting cremated or burried. If they Are cremated, they will not haunt. Only if they Are burried. So as a player you have the choice if you want a deaceased zoi to be a ghost or not. Also the ghost will be connected to where they died or an object that is personal to them. Maybe also if the zoi was religious, it would appear as how the different religions interpret ghosts.

I am glad we have a option to shut off ghosts, or have them. I think it would really depend on my mood if I will actually want ghosts, but I love how it won't be goofy too! I think I would prefer the serious side of ghosts as either scary, or just having a emotional moment with a loved one who passed. Thank you for making it optional and maybe it can be a feature in development over time after early access. But for now.. I am looking forward to early access and what we have so far which already looks great! I am also looking forward to seeing this game grow in development as we play early access and see new features add on over time 😊❤️

I hope you have the ability to add old tattered furniture and wallpaper too. I know with your build tools it is probably easier to do this than other games we all know.

This could be split into three distinct roles:

  2. Coffin Sales Specialist: Assist families in selecting the perfect coffin based on the deceased’s personality or social status.
  3. Gravedigger & Vigil Keeper: Officiate burials, ensure ceremonies run smoothly, and provide emotional support to mourners during wakes.

This would create two dynamic career paths: one focused on the business side (managing the store and selling coffins) and another on the emotional/logistical side (burying the deceased and safeguarding the dignity of the wake).

This will be perfect for my character Jason a single young father with a newborn and toddler and his daughters, and Jason is a single young father whose wife Elizabeth died in a drunk driver accident. Jason is trying to navigate his life by taking care of his babies with the help of his brothers and also continuing to grieve his wife Elizabeth. So maybe Jason will see Elizabeth as a ghost appearing to him, so excited to play Inzoi next month which is also my birthday month 😍

Mo dao Zu Shi is actually my favorite! It's what got me into cultivation stories. Yes, I was thinking of sects too when it came to academies. Originally I was like "to heck with the Hogwarts stuff!" And then I was like wait - but sects have disciples and is more or less the same thing. I'll definitely check out more about the stuff you wrote though. Oh this all sounds sooo fun i am soo happy use added a setting for how many ghosts we want in our city etc that is awsome!! I was really really hoping to see cemerteries or funerals for our zois tho! A good idea for a job would be a tarot reading carreer! That would be sooo cool since use kinda already have it in the game maybe this is something to consider please? Or working at a funeral home making sure the place is clean candles are lit and so on! Yay i cant wait until march.

I’d maybe like possessions maybe a bad ghost might control your Zoi for a short while or compel them to do bad things if your zoi lingers around a bad ghost too long or sees them too many times over a certain period or maybe curses that affect Zois who have bad relationships with the ghost that add debuffs or certain events to happen for example bad luck curse or a sense of fear at night curse or a sense of being watched curse and I want ghosts to be able to want to stay as a ghost or try to move on on their own over time maybe certain recipes can remove curses and ward away bad ghosts and invite to talk with good ghosts to help them or even try to help a bad one get over their issues if your willing to risk it

I just personally think for Inzoi that at the same time there should also be on the other direction immortality without decelerated aging in addition to without eternal youth just so that it can be genuine strongly considered that longevity extension, near immortality and actual immortality doesn't necessarily mean and promise decelerated aging and doesn't necessarily mean and promise eternal youth to say otherwise is more like a assumption than any of the longevity extension lifespan researchers would care to admit. I just think ghosts takes away from the realistic aspect that attracts me to this game. In the sims, the whole vampires/warewolves occult thing really ruined it for me. My humble opinion is to keep it true to what we see in reality. I was keen on the idea to play in real time, where I log in and the time is the same time that I’m in - hence why I’m a player that enjoys the immersive alternate reality you can join. If your selling point is that the customisation etc is like real life, would you not want to stay true to that model? Just my two cents

Sometimes ghosts may interact with the electric or objects instead of appearing. That'd also make them creepier since you don't even know who/what is doing all of that.

Ghosts could look the same when they were alive but this time a little bit transparent.

hi, since this is a huge thread idk if these things were already suggested and please feel free to ignore them if they were but personally, i love playing with occults, i mean there are many folk lores as mentioned irl about occults in different cultures around the world, drawing from them and creating them even if they're fantasy would be a nice addition further down the line, i wouldn't mind this being an optional DLC thing!

as for ghosts, i liked the idea of them being actually scary! wandering around at night in a place you shouldn't be like the woods, a place the passed person frequently visited of held a connection with like the beach or an old, abandoned house could give a chance of encounter, as well as a beloved relative that passed which your zoi had a close connection to appearing for a moment to exchange a few words, or like you suggested being allowed to resolve unresolved business and karma in the afterlife, i think it would fit the setting of inzoi and could be tied to a toggle for people that don't want them in their game!

my personal opinion is that i've always liked the sims series for sillier aspects that didn't really break the game for me - as for life sim in general my stance is that if i wanted a full replica of my real life i wouldn't be seeking that in a game, i have my real life for that! so in a virtual world i like to play with and create stories, both mundane and fantastical! the more tools for this there are with noticeable and traceable impact in the game world, the better! sparKles

There are so many things to consider and while real life has given me some very "strange" experiences I could come up with many things that in the game could be fun and maybe even give peace to some. Like the mention for the contact with lost loved ones that could be cool I just. Not horror movie stuff but things that could give you a slight chill or thrill but not give you a heart attack lol something meaningful
