#RenoDX: GreedFall

I think the default of "2.2" for gamma correction is wrong for this game. In SDR mode (Windows HDR OFF as well, so no sRGB wrong gamma issues) I can see the stairs. In HDR with RenoDX, I can't. If I set gamma correction to "off," then the visibility of the stairs matches what I see in SDR. Gamma correction 2.2 (left) vs off (right):
@dreamy frigate Is this one of your mods?
no sir
I don't remember who NotVoosh is on the server 😛
i'm wager more your display isn't calibrated than the gamma correction being broken
sdr and hdr aren't matching
You can see the stairs in the left image?
Well, in SDR I can see the stairs even with different gamma values for my display. 2.0, 2.2 and 2.4. All make it visible.
that's not how you compare
boot the game, unmodded* in sdr while in windows hdr, apply lilium's 2.2 gamma correction over reshade, take a snapshot
then take a snapshot of the gamewith the mod with gamma correction at 2.2 on
they should look the same
what your display does in SDR mode doesn't matter
sorry if i sound aggressive, but it's just how the math . of course the game could be wrong, but again, in my experience, generally it's something with the hdr/sdr mismatch on the display
Alright. I did that and I can see the stairs:
The image is similar to what I get with RenoDX when I disable its gamma correction.
Gah, wrong screenshot. Here it is with the shader options visible:
gamma correction off looks brighter to me than the manual 2.2
unless i'm looking at it wrong
ah, i was, clipboard is sdr
Should I be taking an HDR screenshot of the Lilium shader?
mathematically it's apply gamma correction at the end just like reshade would
so comparing the mod off against on would be the next thing i'd check
if off isn't really off
SK to upgrade swapchain and lilium's graph is a good way to do it, i think. @strong stream knows how to do it
so you're not eyeballing, but comparing graphs
and with numbers like min and average
Well, with Lilium's shader configured as shown (meaning defaults) with Windows HDR enabled, I basically get the same visual results as running the game with Windows HDR disabled.
With RenoDX, I only get the same result if I switch gamma correction from 2.2 to "off."
you can just set output in SK to hdr10 or scrgb then select paper white, gamma, etc
and turn off the gamut expansion stuff
might be double applying srgb -> 2.2 or something
Well, since it looks more correct with the setting off, I thought it might be a bug so I wrote here. But I guess NotVoosh is not on this server?
