He was a Russian soldier with psychic abilities and a member of FOXHOUND.
During the Shadow Moses Incident, he participated in the Liquid Snake revolt as a member of the FOXHOUND rebel group calling themselves the Sons of Big Boss, using his mental powers to brainwash the Genome Soldiers. He tried, using his mind-reading ability, to get the nuclear missile launch codes from DARPA Chief and ArmsTech President Kenneth Baker, but failed as Baker had psychic isolation implanted in his brain as a security measure.
Finally, he fought Solid Snake using his great psychokinetic abilities. During the battle, Mantis snuck into Snake's mind and there he found the same emptiness that lay inside him, but in the end he was defeated. It was precisely with his death when for the first time he used his incredible powers to help someone, showing Snake and Meryl the path they should follow.
