#On handling dropouts, rage quits, cheaters, and poor sportsmanship → Reputation

Dear Dev, I imagine on of the priority issues for BR is how deal with the poor gaming experience when playing against other human players, namely, players who exhibit poor sportsmanship.

TLDR: BR needs a reputation system (based on Steam IDs) in which hosts can define the minimum reputation necessary to join a table, thus incentivizing fair play and providing an overall better XP for the community.

So here is a modest proposal, have a look at what the great folks by BoardGameArena implemented, see their FAQ "your account, reputation, and ranking"

In short, each player's reputation starts at 75% (up to max 100%) and will take a hit every time they break the code of conduct, like dropping out of a game, taking way... too... long... to make a move (i.e.: wasting time and encouraging other players to quit), etc... this reputation hit is not permanent and would recover with time either literally after days/weeks (slower) or by playing several rounds properly (faster).

I think private tables do not count for reputation building or destroying, to prevent abuse.

While hosts can kick a player from the table, this is also rife for abuse that can be mitigated with a 2/3 majority vote.

Regarding cheaters, it's a bit more complicated (I'm not discussion collusion nor king making), but it can be mitigated or discouraged like in chess.com, lichess.com, etc. -- some kind of complaint filing system, which will burden the company with support complaints, but in the long run, cheaters will destroy the experience of everyone.

In short: what I mean to say is the purpose is to have a good time, with fair play, and do mental gymnastics with probabilities. If players are not mature enough, they shouldn't steal the fun from others.
