Unable to start game if friend is on linux

Not really sure if it is a bug or an intentional feature, but having no problem to play with two friends, when my friend joined on Linux we couldn't get to start the game. Later, he swapped OS and got into windows, that let us start the game us usual. Not really much of a problem to me but i guess it can really be for some people
