People come to regard him as a legendary character, one of the highlights of the entire EU, and his stories were possibly what turned the EU into a coherent extended universe worth caring about, rather than a smattering of stupid fan fiction.

Thrawn in new canon novels:
Level-headed, brilliant strategist and Sherlock guy. His true motivation for working with the Empire is to protect his own people from a subversive threat threatening their space. Still an interesting character, but a downgrade from the original.
People like seeing him in the canon again, and it's more or less the same character, just in a different situation. Pretty cool.

Thrawn in Rebels:
Calm, ruthless, and intelligent. Talks about art. Always a step of the good guys, but it's not really believable how or why. He just makes extreme inferences that happen to be right. Except for the times when the heroes do something it would be in his capacity to predict, but he doesn't because the episode needs the heroes to come out on top at that particular moment.
He's interesting for an Imperial. He's not a psycho or a doormat. He's pretty intimidating for his coldness and how dangerously competent he really is. But he's not written smartly enough to be much more than "The antagonist of the show."

Thrawn in Ashoka:
Calm, ruthless, patient, tubby. Not interesting or impressive, hasn't even done enough to rise to the Rebels-level of "cool antagonist.
He's just a reference to Rebels at this point.

stakes?? You can’t be serious. There are no stakes. I count 7 lightsaber fights so far, and what have been the consequences? Several droids have died, Sabine was impaled but is 100% fine in the very next episode, and a mystery man who turned out to be literally nobody exploded in green smoke. Did I miss anything? Ahsoka “loses” a duel and falls off a cliff but, again, is absolutely fine, because she wins another duel in a dream sequence. ~Stakes~

I’m not gonna get into your “technical elements” but suffice it to say that’s an equally absurd thing to claim is on display in these duels. Hayden is the only one to show off any technical skills. Though it unfortunately served to highlight the woeful lack of apparent training these other actors, specifically Rosario, have undergone to be able to play these roles. If I were playing a Jedi I would be trying so hard to get the moves down and look natural. Rosario looks painfully out of her depth, floundering physically, and it’s not some slower-paced style of lightsaber duel so we can focus on the glaring lack of stakes or the nonexistent technical elements.

Vader vs. Ben: Ben dies.

Luke vs. Vader: Luke loses hand, fails to save friends.

Luke vs. Vader: Luke almost falls to the dark side, spares his father, is subdued and nearly killed by the Emperor, prompting Anakin to return, save his son, and destroy the Sith once and for all, freeing the galaxy.

Maul vs. Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan: Qui-Gon is killed, Anakin’s fate is forever changed, Maul is killed, signaling the onset of an ancient power struggle.

Dooku vs. Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda: Anakin rushes in anger like Luke, loses a hand like him too, both are almost killed but Yoda chooses to save them, thereby letting Dooku escape, starting the Clone Wars.

Anakin vs. Dooku: Anakin executes an unarmed prisoner in cold blood for revenge, an act that marks his slipping fall to the dark side, and brings the war nearly to an end.

Obi-Wan vs. Grievous: Obi-Wan kills the droid general, ending the Clone Wars.

Sidious vs. Mace & co.: co are killed, Palpatine is made vulnerable, manipulates Anakin into attacking Mace, then kills the Jedi master, cementing Anakin’s fall to the dark side, rechristening him Darth Vader, and initiating the Jedi Purge.

So, we have approx. 1-2 duels per film, and there are fairly drastic consequents following each fight. Those are called stakes. What if Maul hadn’t killed Qui-Gon? What if Anakin and Obi-Wan had defeated Dooku together the first time? What is Yoda had stopped Sidious? What if Anakin had killed Obi-Wan? What if Luke had joined Vader at Cloud City, or been killed? What if Vader had not been spared by his son? What if he had not saved Luke? These are all hair-raising questions that would have far-reaching ramifications across the story and the galaxy. Meanwhile, Ahsoka as a character is immune from being harmed because the writer won’t allow it. This show is without a lick of tension in its conflicts. Sabine loses a fight; nothing happens, she’s all better two days later. Completely unscathed. Ahsoka loses a fight; nothing happens, she’s all better a few hours later. Completely unscathed. Empowered, even! Ahsoka the White. No event has any weight, no moral choices are faced, no mistakes are made, and nobody is in danger but NPCs. This is a stake-free nothingburger.

Why did thrawn not shoot the shuttle ezra stole as he left the chimaera, is he stupid?

Weak conclusion to the series both with the end state and the ground covered, leaving everything on a sour note. The only plotpoint that got resolved was bringing back Thrawn and Ezra to their own galaxy, but now it left Ahsoka, Sabine and Huyang stranded and fucked over. Baylon's mcguffin ended up just being teased as Space Mt.Doom on the horizon and with Shin still there as well, they split up for no reason at all. Leaving the whole Baylon/Shin plotline in this state, after dragging their feet with it all through the 8 episodes, feels kinda insulting. You can do that kind of pacing when you have 20+ episodes per season. Hell, even with 8 episodes, more should have happened. 8 x ~45 minutes is 6 fucking hours. That's an entire movie trilogy worth of runtime with 2h per movie. And we don't even know if and when there's more to come to pick up where we left. Filoni getting a grand finale movie? Fucking kek. He can't even tell a complete story within 6 hours. How is he supposed to finish up several series worth of buildup and loose threads in a single movie?
