Lost approximately 2-3hrs worth of progress.

Had bought the base edition, was in game playing and I bought the Blood Scales edition. Got back to town saved & exited game. On reload, several hours of progress had been wiped. I'm guessing it had something to do with the way the cloudsave works with steam and me buying the DLC. Would be happy to give any other information I can.

So I'm noticing this is a little weirder than I had first thought. It didn't actually revert my entire save. Just my character. So my town is still at a lvl 7 and my story progress didn't reset, just my character level/inventory.

Ah, so it actually doesn't appear to be saving any of my progress. Took my character out and gained a level, exited out, log back in, progress is gone. So then I tried to make a new character, got it up to level 2 and to the city and when I log on, it's not even in the character list.

Edit: The new character here was made in a new "offline" city

#

To add, I tried to create a new character (Tracker) in my current "online" city, got it up to lvl 2, through the part where you get your wyrmling, logged out, and when I logged back in, I have a lvl 1 Knight, in the place of the new Tracker I just made.

Sorry for the spam, just trying to get as much information as I possibly can. I'm going to reinstall the game and see if that helps.

Hello

#

Do you know if steam cloud is activated?

jolly cargo
#

It is, at least it appears to be.

limpid charm
#

You can be sure here

jolly cargo
#

Yup, it's enabled

limpid charm
#

Ok, did you played the game before the 1.0? maybe during Early access?

jolly cargo
#

Negative

limpid charm
#

Can you please try to deactivate steam cloud to just check if it solves the problem?

jolly cargo
#

It does not. Steam could deactivated, relaunch game, progress still MIA.

limpid charm
#

can you try to progress just a little, maybe create another character and see if he disapears

jolly cargo
#

I sure can, give me a few, I'll report back.

#

Should I make a new character in the current online city, a new online city, or a new offline city?

limpid charm
#

Both are ok, characters are saved locally, even when in online city (for you to be able to move it from any city to another (offline or online)

#

Offline city are saved locally as well

#

so you can create an oflline city with a character (directly endgame to test)

jolly cargo
#

That does indeed save my progress. (Cloud save OFF)

limpid charm
#

ok, so, for a reason I don't know your cloud save is not the same as on your local save and it always erase it

#

If you want to reactivate steam cloud I can try to explain how to fix that

jolly cargo
#

Let's give it a shot. Appreciate the help!

limpid charm
#

ok, we need to delete a file called remotecache.vdf that store what is saved on steam cloud, there is one per game and we need to find the good one

#

Usually it's in a directory like : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\???????\1863430, the tricky part is to find the number that will replace the ????? in my exemple

#

1863430 is the ID of our game, so we are sure that the file remotecache.vdf inside it is only for our game

jolly cargo
#

Found it

#

Just go ahead and delete the remotecache.vdf?

limpid charm
#

I would like to suggest to rename it first, we never know 🙂

#

Then, when you launch the game with steam cloud activated, Steam should ask you what you want to do, keep your local save or get it from the cloud

#

here you may choose to keep your local save and send it to the cloud

#

then it will be synchronised

#

And hopefully the problem will be solved

jolly cargo
#

Got it!

#

So it doesn't ask me which save I want to keep and creates a new remotecache.vdf

limpid charm
#

ok...

#

You will need to make some try and see if everything's ok

jolly cargo
#

Just make some progression and see if it's working?

limpid charm
#

Yes, once again the local save affect only characters (online and offline) and offline cities. Online cities are saved on our servers.

jolly cargo
#

Ahhh, that's why the character was getting overwritten and the city wasn't. Got it. I'll see how that works for my character on the online city.

limpid charm
#

Yes, it might look strange at first but we want the players able to transfer all their characters to an offline city even if the servers are down or if you are not connected to the internet. It’s important to us that players aren’t dependent on an internet connection toplay with their characters.

jolly cargo
#

That makes sense! That seems to have worked. Cloud save is ON and it seems to be synced with the local save now. Should I go ahead and delete the old remotecache.vdf?

limpid charm
#

yes you can delete the old one
