Hello so my contribution just got approved. I submitted for my own game and noticed that the URL had a 2 at the end:

https://www.igdb.com/games/decks-of-dexterity--2

While the URL for:

https://www.igdb.com/games/decks-of-dexterity

Does not go anywhere.

Is it possible to change my game's page to not have the --2 at the end? This may be caused because I submitted my game to IGDB multiple years ago but my submission was rejected because the game was too early in development. Now that my game has released, I have resubmitted and been accepted.

I appreciate the help!

Hi, You are correct it has to do with discarded submissions keeping the slug. Namespace clashes happen a fair amount, which is why we use the '--2' syntax for collisions. We understand this is not ideal, but we generally don't do swaps.

So what should I have done? Could I have made updates to the original discarded post instead of making a new one?

Can I still do that? Update the old one and then delete this new one to get the original URL

If the discarded submission was a new game then you're out of luck as you cannot update a discarded New Game

  1. In answer to what should you do. Having the slug the same as the game name is not always possible. The simplest answer is you accept that the url for your game has '--2' on the end. We understand that sucks a little, but the game slug is not the game name, wherever the game name appears, it will be correct.

  2. Da Grot is mostly correct. We used to throw away discarded new games. When we updated our system to be able to show comments on discarded games, we implemented an archiving system. It might be possible to reverse this process (I can't remember). If:
    a) You can visit https://www.igdb.com/games/decks-of-dexterity/changes, and
    b) The edit link takes you to a resolvable page, and
    c) You do all the transfer copy-pasta to that form, and cleaning out of the old game, and
    d) You politely pass on my apologies to data-team for making them do what I told them they can't do,
Then you might be able to get the original slug working again

  3. DaGrot, you are a legend. I didn't want to correct, but figured you would like to know about the new capabilities too.Thank you for all the help you give the community,
