Hey ! I tried to play Ibara for a few games recently (because I wanted Ibara data for tuning but I didn't get any lmao), and I find her pretty difficult to play

I figured out her alpha is only efficient if you aim before using it, her beta is her best move but it is hard to know its area of damage, and her gamma is horrible because it's difficult to grab opponents and if it does it locks you into place

I also found it difficult to touch opponents, like sometimes, an enemy is just in front of me, I use my gamma, but it just goes through him without grabbing him. And concerning the alpha, if I don't aim, it won't damage opponent at all except if they move in the vines (which is maybe normal?)

I don't know if I'm playing the character in a bad way or not, but maybe some Ibara players could help me figure out some of those things !

(I don't really wanna make Ibara my main, but I find her pretty fun to play sometimes)

Okay so this playstyle is actually kinda like mine (though in my case i'm harming myself by using a support build but i'm learning the space hop build but it still works) so really a passive Ibara is okay, position yourself in buildings if your beta is AT LEAST level 4 or on high grounds for a good sniping spot since most characters can't contest a high ground Ibara due to her great defensive capabilities, now I make this mistake sometimes but always try to be at least with your team constantly incase of an emergency rez or if you're in danger and need immediate assistance now I don't have much else to say on the playstyle but it's purely just providing area denial support mostly for the team while also giving them room to breath with that as well as potentially picking off kills like a sniper does in other shooter games.

Ibara gamma is like that. At first it was a struggle for me to land even one Gamma. But yes the gimmick with her gamma is that you will either use it on unsuspecting folks healing or around the corner.

The preferably way to use it for most people or rather people who do know Ibara well is as as defensive mechanism. Her gamma even upon missing has super armor- which allows you to counter most abilities that relying on getting close to land. I can give some examples

But I was first say that the gamma has a bigger hitbox and higher chance of landing when used in the air than when it is used on the ground. I've lost count in the numerous times I've missed a gamma because I used the grounded version of it vs using it in the air. It acts like Kirishima Gamma. Using it int he air gives a higher chance of landing it rather than using it on the ground.

If the enemy is in the air- it will land most if not all the time. There is a slide she does just as she uses the gamma. Her gamma has around 4 frames

You want to aim for the 2nd to the 4th frame to land the gamma. Ideally, 2nd to 3rd frame- aiming to time it for that is better.

Although there are some cases where you want to use it as early as possible to catch them in the 2nd frame leading to the 3rd, but thats for abilities like twice gamma....the problem with those situational scenarios is that it often leads to being cancellde out early- staggering both you and the enemy*

People often think its easy to land gammas with ibara from an outside POV, but then they realize that its sort of gimmicky.

But I can give you examples of abilities you can indeed counter the gamma. Right off the bat I will start with Rapids
Should be important to note that a simultaneous jump into Gamma is great.
Rapids
Ochaco Beta - If she is uo close and trying to run you down with it. You can run up- buffer gamma and grab = Easy

Ochaco Alpha - You can actually catch her on wakeup if she tries to run away using alpha to escape if you predict where she is headed- but make sure you use Gamma in the air = Medium/Hard Timing is important here.

Ochaco Gamma - If she aims to get close...you can actually get a gamma off, but use alpha to get her to stop HITTING you

Mirio Alpha - Due to mixups this guy can be a headache, but if he decides to do uncharged alphas that is a relatively easy grab if you jump gamma. You can also grab him as he charges an alpha. But it needs to be quick. -Medium/Situational
Timing is important here.

Mirio Beta - Some will try to bait you into trying to go for a Gamma and go immediately into Mirio Gamma. But if not- go for the gamma IMMEDIATELY do not give them the chance to react. Make sure to dodge the attack before going for it. - Easy/Medium

Mirio Gamma - Walk in....gamma. Seriously. - Very Easy

Hawks Beta - Grab him as he tries to get his first hit in for the Beta Flight. The initial beta is what you should aim for, but if not- timing is very precise here when he goes to beta you again. Twice - His Gamma is very gimmicky. It's annoying to try and gamma because it is very much possible but for some reason the tape he uses to pull himself closer break super armor like FKN Rapid Toga. But buffer the Gamma. Timing is important here.
