You're going to have that happen to you a lot when you use support characters, Ibara and Momo in particular
Best thing you can do in Ibara's case is use beta to push folks off you, gamma to bait and trap them if they get too close and alpha to attack from afar and snipe aerial characters.
And pray you have good teammates who comprehends the concept of protecting their supports

My thing is it's best to give willpower to a character that has actual movement so you'll have a better chance of making the best use of the tuning instead of just almost dying immediately with the character that doesn't have movement
Again this is just a personal preference

Gamma is kinda about predicting their movement but it can also be used for a get up catch, beta is a distance making tool but I like to use it as a strong get up attack, hipfire alpha should often be used towards the ground and let the vines crawl up to them instead. Also never fight until you at least have level 4 alpha or you are literally forced to

Best way to use Gamma. At least above lvl 4 because I am going to be completely honest with ibara's gamma from lvl 1-3 its simply not worth it unless you hit it on an early red dabi who siphons his hp or a rapid with low hp....but you'd have to hit it twice, you don't want that. It isn't worth it. After you do use Gamma enough times it becomes muscle memory and you always get the idea that (Yes I will hit this Gamma). It also sends a message to those rapids.
There are multiple scenarios to which you can use the Gamma over Beta (but you can use Beta if you are not sure). But this requires much confidence if you wanna land more Gamma's:

Enemies attacking you with super armor (ex. Iida, Kirishima, yellow might beta,) those with a gold outline you can tell)
-
Reading melee abilities and catching them there to punish
-Pathing, probably a hard scenario to pull off but you'll mostly be pulling this off with those pesky Froppy's and Monomas and wake-up overall. Mirio too
-
Enemies stuck in place when using their abilities, Endeavor Gamma lol. Run up and grab him. Mirio after he beta's assuming he doesn't have special action. AFO beta you can run around as long as you predict it and go around he will be stuck in animation.

You can grab a Mirio charging up alpha. If you have the chance plz do it.

You can use it to get an annoying pest from chasing you when you are trying to escape assuming you have enough hp or gp to tank a hit cancel it early but it should be enough to send a message. They usually scurry away.

If they by any chance PLUS ULTRA/CHAOS
Please catch them with the Gamma. They will die. 🙂

Now there are other special scenarios by which you can catch with a Gamma. Namely, I want to point out, a rapidgo coming down for a Gamma, Red deku mid beta (yes this works... will probably cancel out both abilities, be free to test), on YOUR wake-up if they think they can aura farm on you.

Gamma is legit the kill option if your teammates are with you can you want to just get rid of them so they are out of the fight, or you want to encourage your teammates to play around you for free kills because yes this does indeed bring your teammates joy because sometimes it seems that half the community forgets that you can shoot at the target ibara grabs with her gamma and get a guaranteed kill. They'll even wanna queue with you next game.
But that aside, Gamma people because the dopamine you get from it is better than hitting a beta. One more thing (or not). The storm is your friend with those gammas lol. Just cancel early and you'll likely be fine
There are also some cases where red shiggy wants to grab you too so just grab him in return and show him that you are the better grabber...grappler....ye.
Not to mention with red shiggys since you do not have an option to stay in the air, spam gammas...preferably gammas because sure you can use beta but it has two charges and you are out, missing a gamma will not take a charge.
Ibara with gamma very much promotes aggressive gameplay, playing like a crashout. Playing up close with your team because alone would likely mean your impending doom. If you play more sniper Ibara you can use it to defend against anyone trying to run up on you while you are sniping. Defensive tool. But thats BORING imo.
From what I've seen Thorn Maiden kinda plays skirmisher Ibara/sniper Ibara, Gammas whenever an enemy an enemy decides to target her or stop high level threats, or prevent escapes and catching plus ultras

Maybe Fixer, Embrittlement(if you can get up close), Card Duplication(for faster levels), pu turbo perhaps, Revenge strike, and yeah...pretty much it

tips for her unaimed alpha: #1 dont use it💀
it does less damage, has less range, barely even works, and is just not worth it overall
i only use it to check bushes from time to time
and definitly dont try to use it on people in the air
Just practice using the aimed alpha until youre comfortable and youll never feel the need to use the unaimed shot
To find success with her alpha, youll need aim obviously but there are other ways to make hitting the shots easier
- Positioning- When engaging in a team fight i like to be on high ground where i can oversee the fight happening in front of me and i can focus on hitting my shots with little risk
when theres no highground just be somewhere behind your teammates during the fight but not too far so you can revive if needed (though if they decide to die 3 miles away from you thats on them)

#2 Prediction- learning to predict what people will do will help you alot since youll already know where to aim, one thing that works wonders for me is when i shoot someone on the ground theyre like "ayo wtf just hit me" then they roll and i shoot again. so many people do this lol

#3 Paticence- this really helps when hitting targets in the air or trying to escape. alot of characters have endlag or linear movements on their escape options

I do it for characters in the air when im either unsure of what direction they'll dash but when people run away its normally out of panic so direction is sometimes beyond themselves, but in the case where they remain calm and choose their directions wisely...it can get a bit tricky, better off running towards where you think they will land. Ofc only do so if you think your team is capable of following up in off chance something unlucky happens

also if you hit some one in the air and they recover, theyre cooked and you can just shoot them again after their i-frames end or they try to shoot back

They do not go together and they always clash
